TDK: IMAX or regular theater?

For those that have seen it on both, is it worth trying to watch on IMAX or will I be none the wiser just watching in a "normal" theater? Thanks in advance.

IMAX if possible. It was amazing. However, if you see it in a regular theater, it's still extremely enjoyable.

I've seen it on both, and let me tell you, you HAVE to see it in IMAX!

If you live nowhere near an IMAX theater, buy a plane ticket... lol, no just kidding.

Seriously, if there's no way to get to an IMAX just make sure you see it in a nice large auditorium, and not one of your theaters secondary screens.

IMAX.

I saw it on an DLP screen the day after I saw it on IMAX and even the digital projection looks soft compared to what you get on IMAX. When you can see the mayor's wearing eyeshadow, you know IMAX is pretty darn sharp.

Thanks everyone so far on the opinion, since I am going to the first matinee show on Friday I am guessing(hoping) that I should not have a problem getting a ticket for it then. I asked because I am actually only about 10 miles away from the Imax that is by me so the travel is definitely not the issue.

I watched it opening day in a regular theater and still the mayor's eye shadow was plainly obvious. I can only shudder to think of how noticeable it will be in IMAX.

Just try watching Lost in high def. His eye shadow is even more obvious on that show.

In all seriousness, does he really wear makeup or does the actor just have really thick eyelashes?

Probably won't be a problem but all the IMAX theatres around here have still been sold out for 3 out of 4 shows a day - so you may want to check ahead. And IMAX is the way to see this one without a doubt. First time I saw it was IMAX, my next 2 viewings were standard 35mm and both paled in comparison... have to hit up IMAX again next week (35 minute drive to nearest one).

Imax is a waste. With the exception of about 10 minutes of the movie where it was shot with Imax cameras, the entire movie looked exactly the same as it did when I saw it thursday night. Now i don't know if the Imax i went to was just a crappy one, but seriously the screen was only a tiny bit bigger than the theater I normally go to. It's not even worth the extra price of admission, let alone traveling a distance.

I agree it would be a waste if you went to an IMAX where the screen is barely bigger than a normal theater. There was a new IMAX that opened up by me and I was disappointed how small the screen was compared to the usual IMAX screen I go to which is about twice the size.

^That is seriously weak...I guess then the extra brightness/clarity that the IMAX projector/film bring is greatly diminished.

well of course IMAX is going to trump DLP - DLP is 2K resolution, 70mm film (IMAX) is superior in color, clarity and sharpness.

I'm pretty sure he wore eyeliner as Batmanuel when he was on The Tick
Maybe it's just the actor's preference?

I'm going to see it in IMAX... as soon as my local theater stops selling out. Seriously, I was going to go last night with my gf and all shows were still sold out. We'll probably try to go this weekend at some point. The IMAX screen is HUGE at my theater so I can't imagine how good Batman will look on it.

I saw it in Imax last night, and regular theater on Saturday........Enjoyed it much more in IMAX..........Te city sky views in IMAX are awesome AND The whole intro and some other very impoortant action scenes were done in IMAX (one long one in particular.........which I did not expect to be entirely IMAX)............... MY IMAX near me (Providence, RI) has 6 dollar Tuesdays so I couldn't go wrong! usual price is around 14.........

according to IMDB, he just has unusually thick eyelashes and does not wear eyeliner.

I assume you're going to the Spectrum, that's my favorite IMAX, it has a huge screen and has about 580 seats (The Bridge and Anaheim Gardenwalk only hold 300+). It's crazy that their showings have been selling out these past two days, even the 7pm and 10pm tonight are already sold out. I plan to go there again Friday at noon, hopefully it doesn't sell out, I want to use my movie cash for that showing.

Defintitely go in IMAX. My IMAX is about a 45-50 minute drive and I've seen it there once and that is where I'll be going back to see it at in a couple of weeks (hopefully once the crowds have slowed down a bit). It was awesome in IMAX. There were four lengthy sequence entirely shot in IMAX, and than quite a few shorter exterior shots. It's gonna be hard for me to watch in anything but IMAX.

Yeah, you've gotta see it in IMAX for sure. I went to Nashville, TN to watch it in IMAX with my cousin (he lives there, so it was also a family visit). We watched the 12am showing on a normal screen, then on the IMAX screen at 7pm that Friday, so that made it two viewings for us in less than 24 hours.

I can't wait until they get the IMAX screen up and running at the Hollywood 20 in Greenville, SC. I'll be going there even more often than I already do for sure!

So what's the standard screen size for IMAX? I'm going to see TDK again on Saturday morning, this time in IMAX, at a theater that just opened in April. I know the screen is 3,084 sq. ft. Is that normal?

Does the aspect ratio change on the IMAX screen when the scenes switch to non IMAX filmed sections of the film? If it does is it distracting?
