Seriously, get with the times. You might as well still be watching B&W TV or movies on VHS. It makes no sense.
You're missing A LOT if you're not seeing The Dark Knight on IMAX
And its bullshit saying you are missing A LOT if you dont see the Dark KNight in IMAX. That is just absurd.

It was amazing. I've seen other films in IMAX that were not filmed with IMAX cameras, and I was the same as you in that I didn't care for them and didn't see any big deal about them. This movie, though, looks absolutely amazing during the scenes filmed with IMAX cameras. I hadn't seen anything like it before.

Yes and vinyl apparently sounds better than CD's. "And sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie but I wouldn't know cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherf**ker."
Look it's just my preference I think it's all a gimmick like smell-o-vision and 3D, etc.
I understand some people like it and thats fine but I choose to support products I really dont think can be "improved" upon when I already get so much joy or whatever from them.

There's nothing gimmicky about it though. Bigger screen, better sound, and in the case of Dark Knight, some better picture. I can see that someone wouldn't want to pay the extra cost to have those benefits, just like not buying Blu-ray yet because they don't have an HDTV and players are too expensive, but it doesn't change the fact that it's better technology. It's not a preference, it's just the facts.
It's like saying you don't want to upgrade your Playstation 2 to a Playstation 3 and saying the better graphics and capabilities of the new console are just a gimmick.

You're using sales figures to prove your point?!?
You do realize that at this point in it's life cycle, DVD was doing just the same against VHS as BD is doing against DVD? So based on your argument people should never have moved on from VHS.
6 times improved image quality and lossless audio is not a "gimmick"
Nor is IMAX filmed movies.
You are really coming off as very uneducated.

Maybe it isnt a gimmick but its just my preference.
Its also ridiculous to compare DVD to VHS. Thats a debate I wont get into cause I am done arguing over anything HD. I dont need to defend DVD and the amount of titles available on DVD than compared to whatever.

What is the optimal sitting location for this movie in IMAX? If I sit near the front, does it become disorienting? Is there a "sweet spot" in the theater?

Far back, center... Not all the way in the back, maybe 2-3 rows from the back.
As for chris_sc77, he just comes off as a Luddite. The IMAX screen, particularly in the case of Dark Knight, is just astounding. It's not just a gimmick, keep in mind there are several scenes that were filmed in IMAX 70mm film. The clarity is night and day compared to 35mm, especially when it switches back and forth.
Shit, I'd pay for chris_sc77 to go see it in IMAX. We should all pool together a dollar or two each to get his ass in an IMAX seat. Join us, chris. One of us One of us.

I'm like, life's short, why deny yourself an awesome film-going experience by not seeing TDK on IMAX. Rigidity isn't something to be proud of. Be open to change and new experiences and technology, you just must be surprised in a good way.

I sat fairly close last friday... I didn't find it overwhelming, but I could have moved back and been just as happy.
The key was sitting in the middle. You definitely have to turn your whole head (especially if you're close to the screen). I wouldn't want to be sitting off to the side.

I saw it on an IMAX screen first then on a DLP digital screen with only 12 hours between viewings. There are 4 scenes shot with IMAX cameras (2:4 ratio) and the rest shown at 2.40:1. You will actually see more movie at the IMAX, so I would say go that way.

Imax means nothing to me. It isnt worth more than a quarter more in price than a "regular" screen. And even if they were the same price I'd still probably prefer a "regular" screen. I like movies wide and prefer WIDE over TALL

It is all about quality in my mind. Some people are fine with it on a regular screen, some people are fine with it on an older screen that won't fit the aspect ratio, and some are fine with a bootleg movie shot with a camcorder where half the movie is either out of focus or someone is standing up and blocking the view. Personally, after seeing in both venues, the shots that were filmed with IMAX conveyed the size of the story, if I could say it that way. I honestly remember seeing the same shot on a regular screen that was was meant for IMAX and realizing just how small that shot looks when cut down.

IMAX was all right, but some of the action sequences were hard to follow...some were amazing, though.
All in all, it's okay, but not as good as the overhype of 'only way to see it'!
I'd probably go DLP.

Simply put, WOW! While I can only speculate since I have only now seen it on IMAX this morning, but I can't see how it would be better on a normal screen. That and I am pretty sure the sound system usually is much better in an IMAX so that too was amazing. While yes it does cost more to see, I have a feeling that I am going to make sure and take my wife to go see it at IMAX when she gets back in town as opposed to a normal screen for her viewing of the film. Thanks for the opinions on the matter everyone and now I can finally go on the other threads and read up on everyone's opinion of the film as personnaly it is way up there on my all-time favorites, just not sure where yet.

I plan to go there again Friday at noon, hopefully it doesn't sell out, I want to use my movie cash for that showing.

Hi. I am one of the few who have not seen The Dark Knight yet. I have been holding off Ihoping to see it in a IMAX theater, but the closest on is a bout 1 hour away in at the Cradle of Aviation in Long Island NY. I took a trip on Wednesday to see it but was totally sold out. The theater holds only 300 people and was packed.
My question is is it worth me waiting and traveling to the IMAX or should I just settle for a normal theater? Also, has anyone ever been to the Cradle of Aviation IMAX? It looks kinda small on the outside.
Thanks for any info.

I just came back again from the 12:30 showing for the Irvine Spectrum. Was second in line and the theater was packed. Got out and and the 3:45 showing was pretty damn long. Checked fandango, and saw that showing sold out along with tonight's showing.

oh thank god, the Smithsonian is going to book The Dark Knight down at the Natural History Museum IMAX downtown screen (subway accesible - woohoo!) now I don't have to trek out all the way out to Chantilly Virginia.

Our local IMAX keeps selling out 2 days in advance for nighttime showings, and I can't plan that far ahead right now
Stupid thing.
