Honestly, I'd like it to surpass The Godfather. To see people's reactions to that would be hilarious. Of-course that won't happen though because The Godfather is set (literally) as the #1 film there. It's amazing how that movie has managed to stay as the #1 film of all-time there for sooooooo long.

While I won't see this until tomorrow, if it's good as it seems like I'd have no problem rating it a 10 and seeing it high up on IMDB. Movies like this often give me more enjoyment then stuff like Godfather, so on my own lists it would be higher.

This happens with any big geek movie -- the fanboys all vote 10 on the first weekend, and then it takes several months for it to sink off the list. Attack of the Clones was in the top 5 when it came out. Now it's not even in the top 100,000.

I remember back in the day after Return of the King came out that all 3 LOTR flicks were in the Top 10. Reality will eventually set in.
I don't care how great The Dark Knight is. I can't imagine it belonging in the company of The Godfather.

Me neither, is it bad I fully expect to be disappointed by this flick? We'll see tonight...

Yeah, but that wasn't the point of the post. The point was every fan based movie gets hyper inflated the first week. Dark Knight will come down too, even though it won't nearly be as far as the Stars Wars prequels.
As an aside, I can remember when Titanic was new and #1 on imdb.

Give it 4 or 5 years, THEN we'll see how well it holds up. It may hold up really, really well, or it may just seem like just another good movie 5 or 10 years from now. We'll see.
I haven't seen it yet, but I'm only moderately interested. I'll see it in the next week or three.

Let me check....
...yep, I sure did!

All I'm saying is that when a movie is only 2 days old it's more than a little early to equate it to all time classics that are 20, 30, or 40 years old and have withstood the test of time.
Jeez...
