The Dark Knight already #4 on IMDb's top 250

on IMDb's top 250. Anyone else not surprised by this?

RichC2 07-17-08 10:20 PM

it'll change, it also has a 9.7.

bhk 07-17-08 10:23 PM

You have to laugh at fanboys.

Honestly, I'd like it to surpass The Godfather. To see people's reactions to that would be hilarious. Of-course that won't happen though because The Godfather is set (literally) as the #1 film there. It's amazing how that movie has managed to stay as the #1 film of all-time there for sooooooo long.

fumanstan 07-17-08 10:33 PM

While I won't see this until tomorrow, if it's good as it seems like I'd have no problem rating it a 10 and seeing it high up on IMDB. Movies like this often give me more enjoyment then stuff like Godfather, so on my own lists it would be higher.

True_Story1011 07-17-08 10:41 PM

hopefully they re-evaluate their rating system on titles that havent come out yet.

This happens with any big geek movie -- the fanboys all vote 10 on the first weekend, and then it takes several months for it to sink off the list. Attack of the Clones was in the top 5 when it came out. Now it's not even in the top 100,000.

Doughboy 07-18-08 09:16 AM

I remember back in the day after Return of the King came out that all 3 LOTR flicks were in the Top 10. Reality will eventually set in.

I don't care how great The Dark Knight is. I can't imagine it belonging in the company of The Godfather.

RichC2 07-18-08 09:45 AM

Me neither, is it bad I fully expect to be disappointed by this flick? We'll see tonight...

Wait...I saw it at 95,677 the other day, right ahead of Gigli at 95,678.

Ram 07-18-08 04:27 PM

Number 3 now.

fumanstan 07-18-08 04:28 PM

I just rated it a 10. :)

superdeluxe 07-18-08 04:49 PM

Who had people who gave it 5 out of 5 star reviews, even though they hadn't even watched the movie yet.

I'll be seeing it Monday more then likely. Can't wait.

redrum 07-18-08 06:19 PM

And it's that way in politics too like Obama for example.

But Attack of the Clones sucked. The Dark Knight did not.

true story.

also "big geek movie"? haha.

Trevor 07-19-08 07:43 AM

I'll have to see it again to be sure, but I'm not sure if I'll be upset if it ends up in the top twenty. Amazing film.

Yeah, but that wasn't the point of the post. The point was every fan based movie gets hyper inflated the first week. Dark Knight will come down too, even though it won't nearly be as far as the Stars Wars prequels.

As an aside, I can remember when Titanic was new and #1 on imdb.

After seeing it several times, it does. It's a damn bloody brilliant movie.

It's a little early for those kind of statements.

Give it 4 or 5 years, THEN we'll see how well it holds up. It may hold up really, really well, or it may just seem like just another good movie 5 or 10 years from now. We'll see.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm only moderately interested. I'll see it in the next week or three.

argh923 07-19-08 07:01 PM

You can't say "it's a little early" if you haven't even seen it yourself.

Yes I can - and I think I did.

Let me check....

...yep, I sure did! -ptth-

All I'm saying is that when a movie is only 2 days old it's more than a little early to equate it to all time classics that are 20, 30, or 40 years old and have withstood the test of time.

Jeez...
