Do they hand out the kool aid before you enter the theater to see TDK?

I'm sorry, but comparisons to The Godfather and Goodfellas seem more than a little silly after just 2 days. I don't care how you feel about the movie right now. Those movies have been with us for a hell of a long time, and we all know what we think about them after all that time.

Wait, let's compare it to Citizen Kane while we're at it...

I rarely go back and rate a movie far lower then I did, regardless of when I watched it. I enjoyed this more then the Godfather, so I have no problem scoring it higher. It's not my favorite movie of all time, but I don't really care if it ends up ranking higher. More power to it.

I know what you're thinking Erik - because I was thinking it too before I saw TDK. Just fanboy rants ala "Lord of the Rings", right?

Well, no. The rants are justified. This is a masterpiece. It's a masterpiece now, it will be a masterpiece 20 years from now.

Made me feel like everything else I've seen this year was a waste of time and money. And I've seen some "good" films.

I could probably watch this film every day for the next month and take away something new with each viewing...it's THAT good.

I'm not buying it - not yet.

I've read critiques that have said that the script and storytelling in Batman Begins was tighter, that the story in TDK is more confusing and harder to follow. I'm not sure if those critiques are accurate or not, but so far all of the "Best Ever" type stuff I'm reading is fanboy stuff. The kind of things you would have read about The Wrath of Khan if the internet had existed in 1982...

...now that I think about it, TWOK has held up remarkably well.

I'm still very skeptical that TDK is Godfather or Goodfellas good. The Departed was good, but not THAT good, are you telling me that TDK is that much better than The Departed? Is it really Academy Award for Best Picture & Best Director good? I find a lot of these comments to be comical in their seeming exaggeration (or fanboy delusions).

I have no doubt that it is good (VERY good), but I find it hard to believe that a Batman movie is one of the best dramatic movies of the decade. Maybe one of the best Comic Book movies of the decade, but, come on - the praise is not universal. The non-fanboys like it a lot, but are not lavishing that kind of, "All Time Best Crime Drama," type praise on it.

If the Lord of the Rings series can be held in such high regard, I don't see why a Batman film couldn't. And I thought Lord of the Rings was more mediocre then excellent.

It doesn't really effect anything, what people want to believe is the "best movie", it's going to change in a few months/years regardless. Let em have their fun.

See, I thought the Lord of the Rings movies were mediocre from a dramatic standpoint. I certainly don't hold them in high regard. I own an awful lot of movies on DVD (and Blu Ray), and the Rings movies are not in my collection - and won't be.

The Dark Knight likely will find it's way into my collection, but I'm just skeptical at this point as to how good it really is. Right now all the fanboys seem to be riding this collective high and are feeding off of each other - I'm not seeing much perspective put into the conversation.

Who knows? Maybe I'll agree with them. Maybe I won't. I seriously doubt that I'll put it in the same class as The Godfather or Goodfellas, though. (The Departed, maybe...)

I'm not a fanboy. I didn't care for Batman Begins. It was good but nothing great to me.

This movie is totally made on the direction and production and story. I'd even say the Batman is secondary to Joker and Harvey Dent for most of movie. This one is not about a single good actor performance. It's just well made.

That said, it's not the greatest movie of all time or anything like that, but I'd be happy to see it remove a lot of mentions of Titanic being a great movie.

The Dark Knight did the impossible. It dethroned The Godfather. Shawshank, Lord of the Rings, American Beauty, none of those movies that were either at #2 at one time could dethrone The Godfather, but The Dark Knight did. Amazing.

The Matix probably would have if the internet was as mature then as it is today.

And again - you cannot adequately judge a movie without having seen it first. Period.

Oh wow I didn't know the IMDB Top 250 was THE definitive ranking of the greatest movies of all-time?! How about that?! I'll have to remember to check out IMDB more often so I'm always up to speed on what the gretaest movies of all-time are!

Captain Obvious says.. of course, everyone has different tastes. And nobody every said IMDB has THE definitive rankings. Nobody does. But go with that, woohoo!

Actually, though, it's pretty decent if you take out the last coupla years movies (and consider them later). That's supposing you would actually look for the "gretaest" link.

I'm just not buying into the fanboy reaction to it. Not entirely, anyway.

I said this in one of the other 13 threads.. (the previous movie is not high on my list of favorites)

FWIW, I put this in the same class as the first Die Hard. And I'm pretty sure if you liked that you will like this.

Now THAT is just crazy talk. Comparing it to The Godfather and Goodfellas is one thing, but Die Hard? Now I know you're exaggerating!

(Seriously, though, Die Hard is one of my all time favorites - in my top 10 for sure. The one thing I've heard about this one that makes me doubt that I'll like it that much is that it is a bit of a downer movie. Die Hard is fun - violent, but fun. I don't see The Dark Knight as a "fun" movie. Iron Man was fun. The Incredible Hulk was fun. The Dark Knight, from everything that I've read, is impressive, intelligent, and serious - but not particularly fun. John McClane is a smart ass. Bruce Wayne/Batman is not. Am I wrong?)

Are you sure AB never made it to number one? I could have sworn that it did for a short time. Is there a place that tells what has been number one, two, etc in the past?

So stating that one movie can't possibly be better than another isn't judging it?

Well, I love Batman, specially the new reincarnation. I have Batman Begins in HD-DVD, got it when it was released and I also have the Blu-Ray limited edition.

DK was better than BB, but when you start comparing it with The Godfather and other classic movies you know that the fanboyism is the one talking. But if you say it's the best movie based in a comic, I don't have any problem with that. I agree with that.

What I've been saying is that it's silly to say that a movie that has been out for 2 or 3 days is on a par or better than the best movies ever made (such as The Godfather, Goodfellas, etc, etc, etc).

It's beyond silly to say that, it's ridiculous. It's fanboys on a collective high.

Get back to me in 5 years and let's see if it's still held in that high regard. More importantly, lets see if any NON-fanboys give it those kind of accolades - because NONE of the reviews I've read put it on THAT high of a pedestal. Many of them note significant flaws in the movie.

I'm sure it's good - DAMNED good - but what I'm seeing is the same kind of reaction we would have seen from the hard core fans when The Wrath of Khan came out - IF the internet had existed back then. TWOK is a great movie, but it's not Godfather or Goodfellas great.
