I hate that. This might sound extreme, but I think the voting would be more "pure" if all 10s and 1s were removed.

Goat3001 07-25-08 02:54 PM

^Thats not a bad idea. Anyone that voted 10 or one just gets thier vote thrown out the window. Of course the Fanboys will catch on and start voting 9 or 2.

With all due respect to the awesomeness that is TDK, if IMDB's Top 250 list wasn't illegitimate before it sure is now.

islandclaws 07-25-08 03:00 PM

^ That IS a bad idea. Who's the say that just because someone gives a film a 10 or 1 it's a fanboy? There are plenty of films I've given 10's to, and just as many that deserve a 1. It's not possible to determine who is voting legitimately and who isn't, so the current system, though flawed, is as good as it's going to get. Hey, at least it only counts regular voters. If it didn't the results would probably be far more skewed.

Down to 9.3 with 124,766 votes

.2 to go (til it's equal to Shawshank and Godfather, oddly enough, Shawshank has overtaken Godfather for the #2 position.)

At this point, once TDK drops down a notch or two, Shawshank will be the new #1 on imdb.

Ugh, what a depressing post. Wow.

islandclaws 07-30-08 04:22 PM

Update: Still at #1 with 173,151 votes and a 9.2. Shawshank has moved down to #3 and The Godfather is back at #2, rightfully so.

'TDK' fanboys trolling 'Godfather' thread on IMDB

I really hate to add yet another thread about this winged freak, I'm as sick of the topic as most of you, but I stumbled across a potentially new low of internet fanboy display (well, it's hard to sink lower than the death threats on Rotten Tomatoes).

I just went to the Godfather forum on IMDB to see if anyone was talking about the upcoming 'Restoration' DVD, and instead there are pages & pages in just the past 2 days of 'TDK' fanboys warring it out with Godfather fans over an alleged war to vote 'TDK' to the "coveted" top-rated movie on IMDB, in a ferver to oust The Godfather (and I fear they've dragged Shawshank fans into this mess too). Legions of 'TDK' fans have apparently voted Godfather 1/10, with some of the Godfather fans baited to do the same for 'TDK' (and I don't even want to see what's going on over at 'Shawshank').

I don't encourage anyone to lay eyes on this bilious display, but for those who DO want to witness the near-complete failure of democracy: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068646/board

kefrank 07-31-08 10:04 PM

that is beyond ridiculous. it's ridiculicous.

Rainet 07-31-08 10:06 PM

There's plenty of mass trolling in any specific movie forum at IMDB. What makes The Godfather any different? Oh i for got it's TDK.

fumanstan 07-31-08 10:14 PM

IMDB's ranking score is weighted though and they say they take flooding like this out of the equation.

JumpCutz 07-31-08 11:06 PM

 Oh man that's some good stuff. Thanks Living Deadpan.

TDK? TDK?

Oh, The Dark Knight.

IMDb has some very weird obnoxious pathetic threads. Loads of bad behaviour in their forums.

I find the class of IMDB posters varies drastically depending on which forum you're posting to. You can forget any chances of harmony for the majority of populist films or well known personalities of the past few decades. But I've had some very good discussions on the boards for Brazil, Cemetery Man, & H.P. Lovecraft to name a few. Oh yeah, and Zardoz, haha. Never met a hostile Zardoz fan. (I love that film)

This is news not worthy of a thread here on DVD Talk.

Well, where else am I going to vent about this? I need a civilized forum in which I can vent my disdain over that which is not.

Would it be "newsworthy" if I added a bloody poll?

Well, with 203,494 votes now in it's still sitting at #1.

RoboDad 08-05-08 07:00 PM

True, but how many of those come from regular voters? I would bet that eventually, a significant portion of those votes will be discounted, at least toward the top 250 rating.

fumanstan 08-08-08 03:56 PM

Still #1, but down to a 9.1 tied with Godfather and Shawshank.

Brent L 08-08-08 04:06 PM

I think it'll settle at #3, behind those two, and stick around for a long, long time.

islandclaws 08-08-08 04:55 PM

I don't care where it ends up just as long as Shawshank isn't #1. It's a good movie, but it's definitely not the best of all-time.
