It's in the Hollywood Reporter! Jim Vallely is co-writing! I'm not excited yet (once again, this is only sort-of news, call me when the actors are on set shooting) but it helps to sustain my faith that one day, we might actually get there. |

Arnett Says Arrested Development Movie: Rolling by Fall
(3/25/10) Sorry to state the obvious, but Will Arnett is a funny, funny man. When E! News caught up with him at the Monsters & Aliens junket to corner him about why that darned Arrested Development movie is taking so long, the jokester answered, "I think it has to do with schedules, and Jason Bateman’s been in rehab for the last two years, so when he gets out, then I think we’ll probably start." Ha-ha. Find out what's really going down with this darned movie… "I’m worried that people are going to start taking to the streets," Will tells E! News. "I imagine there are other people who are like, 'Who cares?' As far as I know, everybody’s doing it." As we reported earlier this year, everyone is doing it. That includes, along with Will, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, Jessica Walter, Jeffrey Tambor and David Cross. "We want to get done by the end of the year and Mitch [Hurwitz, writer/director] is actively working on [it]," adds Will. "Hopefully, by the fall, we’ll start rolling, as they say." And, as we say: Yay! Source: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b105...#ixzz0jdB6BbpH (3/10/10) Oh "Arrested Development." Why do you continue to taunt us with your refusal to exist? The on-again, off-again, on-again, off-again, on-again, off-ag... you get the idea-- the highly anticipated big screen revival of Mitch Hurwitz's unjustly canceled Fox comedy series has been careening towards a theatrical feature for some time now. Fans refuse to give up the ghost and entertainment journalists -- many of whom are themselves fans -- won't stop asking for updates. Journalists like MTV's Josh Horowitz, who chatted with series star Jason Bateman briefly on the red carpet at Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony. Bateman kept his response brief and to the point. "Nothing new. We're hoping for the end of the year," he said. Hoping? We heard in January that shooting would commence before the end of the year. If there's a delay, you can blame "Arrested" star Will Arnett. He's busy working with Hurwitz on a new comedy series. So how will that impact the "Arrested" movie plans? "His show with [Will] Arnett has pushed it another few months," Bateman said in reference to the new Hurwitz project. Bateman wants the faithful to hang onto their hopes though. "['Arrested' is] still coming," he promised. Source: http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/03/10...-bateman-says/ http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets...zntwo1_500.jpg |

Best cast ever.

Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
That's a great one-sheet, especially if it's a fake.

Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
That can't be the poster. I've seen that picture before, and Cera looks too young for it to be recent.

Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
From JoBlo:
Once upon a time ago, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT fans had a glimmer of hope that their favorite sitcom would get a movie. Well, this news just takes that hope and throws it into the depths of movie hell. David Cross, also known as Tobias "never nude" Funke, told TV Squad flat out that, "It's not going to happen." That certainly contradicts what Jason Bateman was saying back at the beginning of last month. He went on to say, "It's not official, but I just don't think it's going to happen. Way too much time it's been (since the show ended). I mean, there's so many people involved. Everyone's doing their own thing, you know. And everybody's aged. It's just not going to happen. I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say we'd love for it to happen, we'd love to work on it, but just I don't think... not going to happen." Cross seems to think that it might fit better as a special, in the way of something like THE OFFICE UK finale. Sadly, the project was doomed from the start. Again, this isn't anything official, just the realistic opinion of Cross. The actor ended on this note, "It would just feel, I don't know, it's hard to describe. But it's ah, it would feel strange and foreign to see these characters on a movie theater screen, I think." |
Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
Mostly every movie besides Up in the Air that has Bateman has sucked or mediocre.
Will Arnett one of the funniest men in the group hasn't done anything that lives up to his success of GOB. His movies usually end up sucking even though he's a highlight in them like Semi Pro. David Cross has no right to call himself busy. He's desperately trying to find work, hence why he's in Alvin and the Chipmunks. He even admitted in a press interview for Alvin that he took the job because he needed the money. Tony Hale is the only one who's getting a bit of work. I see him then and now. Portia De Rossi and Jessica Walter? I haven't seen them anywhere in ages. Alia Shawkat just got a career revival with 2 semi popular films last year. Jeffery Tambor besides Hellboy hasn't done much. His recent show was canceled and I haven't seen him do much. Oh yeah he was in Hangover & Invention of Lying for 10 minutes. I think that's just a bs excuse. If they're all smart and make smart decisions rather than chasing paychecks they could all work together again and go back to showing their true talent. They're all talented it's just only the fans of the show know about it. |
Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
Portia was in Better of Ted. Walter is doing Archer.
Regardless of any of our perceptions, I would think David Cross has a little more insight into what he and everyone else in the cast, writing staff, production staff, and studio has going on. Just a little. |
Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
I think the "everybody's aged" argument is especially weak.
The problem with this is that I don't think any of the fans expected a movie after the series was canceled. This all came about because they started the buzz. To kill it now just ticks fans off. :( |
Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
I liked State of Play, which had Bateman in it.
I always thought there was a chance there would be a movie. The narrator hinted at it in the last episode. Sure, it might have been done as a goof, but the seed was sowed nonetheless. :) |
Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
No movie, please. The series went out strong, just leave it be.

Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
Frankly, I don't see it ever happening, either. The possibility has been spinning for a while now and each time someone has questioned whether it's ever going to happen, the response has been pretty much the same - "It's still something everyone's on board with, but X is really busy with something else at the moment, and..."

This movie's box office will make Serenity's look like Avatar's. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be good, but...

http://blog.gq.com/blogs/the-q/arres...opment-490.jpg So we were talking to Will Arnett the other day. Don't ask why—all shall be revealed in a month or so. But as you may or may not know, Arnett returns to TV in September as the star of "Running Wilde," his next collaboration with "Arrested Development" creator Mitch Hurwitz. And as you may or may not know, "Arrested Development" is one of the great sitcoms of the last decade, possibly ever. Fans of the show (like all of us here at GQ) are frothing, devout, unreasonable creatures, and ever since Hurwitz and Co. dangled the prospect of an "Arrested Development" movie in front of us a few years back, we've been like Gollum chasing after the One Ring. We wants it. We neeeeeds it... But like Gollum, we've been thwarted. At various junctures, the movie has been on, it's been off, crucial cast members have been in, then they've pulled out, yada yada yada. And all along, the project has been shrouded in rumor. Last we heard, the "Arrested" movie was not happening. Sigh. But! Then we were talking to Will Arnett. And this is what he said: "Yes, it's happening." He went on, but here's the upshot: there is a script—!!!—but it is not finished; all of the principle cast members are on board, but there is no timetable to actually make the movie. So then we called Mitch Hurwitz to make sure that our ears did not deceive us and that Arnett wasn't just pulling our leg. They didn't, and he wasn't. "Believe it or not, we have started the script," Hurwitz told GQ. (And by "we," he means himself and "Arrested" co-executive producer Jim Vallely.) "We're taking a little abeyance while we get ['Running Wilde'] up and running. But it is our absolute next priority and we can't wait to do it." So, rejoice! Hurwitz also had a bit more to say: "We're changing some of the Bush references to Obama because we started it awhile ago. And the Bluths may not be vacationing in the Gulf of Mexico anymore. We also might have to recast the part of Uncle Mel, the former action movie star. But other than that we have a clear path." Of course, the question remains when the movie will actually happen. And that's still the hard part, seeing as it will require the coordination of about a dozen very busy schedules. "As Mitch likes to say," Arnett told us, "we're just going to wait until there's zero interest, and that's when we'll do it." In the meantime, Hurwitz asked us to pass along an apology to "Arrested" fans for the air of mystery around the movie. "Believe it or not," he says, "I do not enjoy teasing our wonderful and devoted audience, which is one reason it appears that I've been so cagey about this. It's just that I don't want to promise what I can't deliver." Fair enough. And in that spirit, we promise not to run naked through the streets in celebration. — Devin Gordon |

Ugh, they tease us. At this point, I'm in the "I'll believe it when I see it" category. But it sure would be great.

Re: Arrested Development movie confirmed
Stop listening to actors! In terms of projects they're in, actors have no control and the least amount of info. People have known the script is "half written" or that "Mitch is working on it" for like months and months now.
If Mitch gives an update, then that's worth listening to. |
