OBJECT

Players take turns posting screenshots from movies. The other players try to guess which movie the screenshot is from.

RULES

Thanks to Frenzy who put together the original rules in Part I. The current rules (with only a few changes from the originals):

1) Only ONE person posts a screenshot at a time. Multiple screenshots and clues are possible to make it easier; the poster might consider making the shots and clues more obvious the longer the movie goes unguessed.

2a) Only the person who has guessed the movie correctly is allowed to post a new picture. If that person is not able to post a new picture => wildcard (meaning anyone can post a new picture).

2b) In lieu of "wildcard," you can also declare "Kudama Time," which is basically (OK, exactly) the same thing. Named in honor of an enthusiastic player, now no longer in the game.

3a) If the person who guessed correctly doesn't post a new picture within 6 hours => wildcard.

3b) If there are no new screenshots or clues from the original poster within 24 hours => wildcard. (In the last thread, there was some support for reducing this to 12 hours. You may post your opinion in the current thread).

4) Each user has two guesses and one question per movie posted.

5) Not really a rule, but an option to speed the game along: consider using the IMDB confirmation system devised by The Bus (see here). This allows a user to verify their own guess without having to wait on confirmation from the original poster.

2) To take a screenshot:

The two most common methods are to play a disc on your DVD-ROM drive and use software such as PowerDVD to take a shot (it's the small camera icon in the control panel). Alternatively, you can download the free (and excellent) VLC Player which takes screenshots.

Please don't post BMP or PNG files if at all possible. Please note that if you use PowerDVD to take shots, they will come out as BMP files; before posting, please convert them into JPG or GIF files, as BMP files are roughly 1MB whereas JPG files are only 50KB on average. Likewise, VLC Player converts screenshots into PNG files, which can often be 600KB on average. There is plenty of free software that will convert your images for you; three of them are:

3) You can upload your pictures for free at:

Confirmation code: The only reservation I have about the confirmation code idea, which I otherwise like, is that it dissuades random guesses. Fewer random guesses means fewer responses and the thread sliding farther down the front page. And part of the fun is sometimes making an educated stab in the dark that might turn out to be right. Just a thought. See, I would have guessed something like Queen of Blood or Invasion for the current pics.

Here's what I have done on a couple of occasions: go ahead and commit to posting the guess, then check IMDB to see if it's correct. If not right, then make a comment to that effect in the post (or ignore it), and the original poster can still respond with comments, clues, or a new shot. If correct, the game can contiinue with a new post, and the original poster can come back with comments later.

I can see how some might not want to post an incorrect guess, although there's certainly no shame in it (I should know). Using the code is optional in any case, so we can see if when it's used it has the effect you describe, and go from there.

It was an error on the part of one of my subordinates. After they made the correction, I had them sacked.

Seriously, though, I've already seen several things I've missed (leaving the word "The" at the beginning of some titles instead of putting it at the end) so if anyone sees any other mistakes please post them.
