The most recent good one I've seen is The Notebook.

I think Serendipity fits the bill as well.

From a few more days past, Bed of Roses was a pretty good flick.

And probably the most underrated, in my opinion is The Princess Bride, because it's got the humor for you, but chicks dig the whole romantic aspect of it. I've used that as a goto chick flick for quite some time, because I can watch it and not be bored in the least.

I haven't seen any recent ones that were worthwhile.

I second Kate & Leopold.
French Kiss and Stardust. Never saw them but my sister likes Maid in Manhattan and Two Weeks Notice.

Most of what others have said (except Match Point, definitely NOT a chick flick)

Say Anything (my favorite movie of all time, chicks love it)
Before Sunrise
Before Sunset
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Benny & Joon
The American President (I guess not a chick flick, but there's a lot of romance)
Jerry Maguire (though who hasn't seen that)
An Officer and a Gentleman (again, not a traditional chick flick, but that's a good thing)
Dirty Dancing
Romancing the Stone
Jewel of the Nile (after RtS)
Splash
Pretty in Pink
Roxanne
Moonstruck
Pretty Woman

My favorite chick flicks have already been mentioned, but its nice to see other people here like them too.

Hitch
Love actually
bed of roses

Oh c'mon, the first 3/4 of Match Point plays out like a total chick flick.

The moral and conclusion, not so much, but then thats what makes it stand out.

Usually the leading man is likable in these sort of things.

Being a student about 10 years ago I seduced a girl while watching At First Sight with Val Kilmer :) So this film works pretty well.

They don't all have to be exactly the same, in a normal chick flick he would have been acceptable but had his heart warmed over come the end... MP just took it another route during a key moment.

chris_sc77 01-21-08 11:20 AM

Love, Actually
Before Sunrise
Before Sunset
Amelie
A Very Long Engagement
Garden State
Say Anything
Almost Famous

Zen Peckinpah 01-21-08 11:56 AM

Say Anything is one of my top 10 favorites ever. My personal favorite. Others:

True Romance (if she's into heavier stuff, this is a must)

Streets of Fire (80's movie, kicks all sorts of ass, action movie with an equal amount of badassery and romance)

Before Sunrise and Sunset makes a decent double feature.

Not sure if this is necessarily a date movie, but I saw The Devil Wears Prada a few months back at someone's house and I absolutely loved it...completely caught me off guard, it's not what you'd expect.

I'm pretty sure "Going region free" means anal.

 Almost Famous is not a chick flick. Is there a romantic plot? Sure but that's not the main focus of the story. It's a think piece about a mid-level band struggling with their own limitations in the harsh face of stardom.

I knew after the first 15 minutes that this guy was a phony baloney. But so was everyone else in this movie. Everybody used everybody. That's not to say it's not a terrific film, but definitely not a chick flick. It'd be like saying "Closer" is a chick flick.

Agreed. Match Point is the opposite of a chick flick because at the end of the movie your chick will be pissed off that the guy got away.

squidget 01-21-08 03:04 PM

chick speaking, so some of my favorite flicks are
Love, Actually
Stardust
The Princess Bride (though one can argue not chick flick but good anyway)
Love & Basketball
Sixteen Candles
An Affair to Remember (I know older but so good)
When Harry Met Sally
Forget Paris (ok I like the funnier type chick flicks)

Subtitled but available region 1
Amelie
Il Mare

not sure about regiona availability
My Sassy Girl

RichC2 01-21-08 03:07 PM

Damn you guys for agreeing, I know it's the antithesis of chick flick but it can be sold as one so easily :P

OldBoy 01-21-08 04:12 PM

or you could really make it an event night with a triple bill including "Thriller: A Cruel Picture"

toddly6666 01-21-08 04:38 PM

Or how about just "Ass Master 3: The Return of Ass Master"? Is she cool with porn?

Hey squidget .. just finished up going over your DVD collection. Aside from the HK MA flicks our collections are very similar. Very nice. Feel like a trip out to the east coast for a little "The Classic" or "L' Abri" or ..whatever Korean drama you prefer? :eyebrow:

forget whoopdido ..

taa455 01-21-08 06:14 PM

How about The Terminal (Tom Hanks, Catherina Zeta Jones) or Sabrina (Harrison Ford, Greg Kinnear) ?

Rypro 525 01-21-08 10:20 PM

Surprised no body has said "Knocked Up" yet.

Well, I've never been to Boston...
:)

oh and if you can find it "A moment to remember" yes korean again but man, it made me cry. sad & sweet at the same time.

visitor Q 01-22-08 01:20 PM

ewww, ewwww .... you didn't say "no" :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually tracked down the OOP Korean release of it that has both cuts (director/theatrical). Paid a hefty sum for it on the aftermarket and still haven't watched it for fear that it won't be worth the price I paid!! One of these days I'll get to it ... I'm absolutely in love with Ye-jin .......
