I was thinking if they tied this into Lost that'd simultaneously be cool and a total cheat.

Only twice in eight years? I don't think I'd come here if you all didn't make me laugh at least twice a day!

And yes, that parody is pretty funny. I like the guy's whole web site actually.

Yeah - I don't come around here much anymore... not like years ago when I was going through a depressed self-loathing phase and I would come here to be miserable.

Enough about that though - so camera batteries don't last an hour and a half... discuss.

some cameras get 3 and a half hours or more on one battery charge - the movie wasn't even half as long as that. I honestly just don't get the nits people pick about this film - it's like "you're trying to entertain the shit out of me??! Oh, hell no! I won't allow it."

I wonder it has any relation to the smoke/invisible monster.

Batteries wear down faster when exposed to radioactive monsters.

Well, they did rewind a bit and watch some of their own footage over again, so that negates that - plus we presume they used the camera's light during the tunnel and perhaps at other times without filming. Regardless, standard high-def cameras have a battery life of at least an hour and a half on the low end - 2hrs is considered decent and there are enough over 3 hours that make it reasonable to assume the battery thing is a non-issue. Aside from that, it's a movie about a fucking giant monster destroying a city - they could make the battery last for 100 hours and it wouldn't matter.

^^^ it's called people who want to crap on a movie just because, and will find any reason besides the fact that they're unpleasant pricks. That's my guess anyway.

Honestly, my only thought about batteries during the entire movie was, "hey, phone batteries don't come pre-charged of the shelf!"

All rechargable batteries come with some charge off the shelf.

Loved this film. It was also my first DLP presentation experience and I thought it was fantastic. The surround sound was great as well. Definitely plenty of intense moments and Hud provides some great comic relief. A very creative effort.

Good film. Not the greatest but it definitely has some replay value. I thought the special effects blended very well, more so than some of the big blockbusters of recent memory. I thought the acting was pretty good for this type of film and the pacing was excellent.

By the way, the theater was dead today and there were about 4 other people in the whole theater. I have a feeling the hype was a one week deal or people are just avoiding this because of the whole motion sickness deal. I personally didn't think it was that bad.

I just wanted to add that this movie SHOULD NOT have a sequel. I think any explanations would really ruin this movie. I mean, what explanation could they possibly come up with that we haven't seen a hundred times before? What makes this film enjoyable is the fact that we have no knowledge outside of what the characters know. We are just going along for the ride.

Unless Paramount holds it, then switches over to Blu-Ray.

I have a friend who won't see this for that very reason.

Finally got to see it tonight...the theater had several warnings at the ticket booth and at the entrance way, with printed out 8.5x11 signs saying "CAUTION: Cloverfield may cause motion sickness." One sign near the entrance even had a little hand-drawn icon of a stick figure praying to the porcelain god

For what it's worth, my wife, who can get motion sickness on an elevator, did just fine watching it. We did sit near the back of the theater though, so YMMV.

I freakin' loved this film. The effects were great, Hud's narration throughout...overall it was just a blast. I had been geared up for it for so long, and it definitely didn't disappoint.

Spoiler:
By the way...I checked out the 01-18-08.com website tonight and saw this:

<img src="http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/6391/picture1lf8.png"

Could this be the fate of the big guy after "HammerDown"? Or does this just look like some whale carcasses?

Whales. The upper left is clearly a Sperm Whale with a hunk torn out of its head. I'm curious, is the site saying it's a shot from a deleted scene showing the aftermath of the creature chowing down on them? Could it be a shot from another movie that's coming called "MEG"?

^^^

Spoiler:
It doesn't say anything. The site is still just a pile of photos that you can push around to look at. There's another photo underneath it of a fisherman in a boat under a giant pool of blood, among others.

Oh yeah, and just for fun, go to the site (http://www.01-18-08.com), leave it there (and make sure your speakers are turned up a little bit), and wait about 10 to 20 minutes

I did this by accident when I minimized my browser to do something else. That was a little surprise at 2:00 in the morning.

Interesting. Why would there be whale pictures? Seems obvious that that's the CFM (Cloverfield Monster).

Well I think it's pretty obvious that the Cloverfield monster came from the ocean so I would assume it would kill whales.

Oooooh I'm guessing it's part of the Viral promotions and NO...
Spoiler:
I'm not waiting to be scared on that site.
Anyone have a list of Cloverfield viral sites?
