The reviews were decidedly so-so. Practically no one has said it's great. How is that "overrated"?

Saw this today. My brother-in-law got Blu-ray and HDTV for Christmas so we had this on during the day.

A) the new TV was not calibrated so it was on flamethrower mode - holy shit that movie is bright already

B) don't expect Grease or SOund Of Music. It's about the music with non-singers in the leading roles.

The parts I saw were entertaining however I did not sit from beginning to end.

Very strange how the movie came out, made nearly 600 million dollars worldwide, yet didn't attract much attention.

Now with the DVD release, all the geek sites and boards are using it as a punchline.

Coincidentally showed up from Blockbuster. Watched it beginning to end. I found it fun and entertaining however it did suffer from a strong lead vocal like the old musicals. When comparing this to say Music Man, the singers are no comparison however Mamma Mia is marshmellow pop in the music category so it works. I certainly give it a 3.5/5

Just watched it on BR and I really enjoy this movie. It's just a popcorn flick and works great as one. I also loved the play (Vegas version). And I love ABBA

You'll definately have to watch it in Sing-A-Long Mode.

The wife and I watched this on Christmas Day. It was a decent enough flick. If I were more familiar with Abba's music, I might have enjoyed it more.

I was mildly interested in this, until I actually saw it and found that it was truly terrible. Pierce Brosnan should not be allowed to sing anywhere outside of his own shower.

The original stage musical is, IMHO, pretty terrible. And I genuinely *like* Abba (and musicals). But stringing a threadbare storyline wedged uncomfortably through several classic pop tunes doesn't make much of an entertaining experience... at least the stage had actual singers. And the incompetent direction in the film doesn't help matters much at all.

To why for? Groin.
