Sure, "Les Mis" it ain't. But the play sure is popular. The film adaption
has quite a great cast. And very nice to see Meryl Streep looking young
again. Her last several movies she's looked twice her age
("Prime", "Prada", "Rendition" and "Lions for Lambs").

next year should be interesting in terms of musicals, this, and the Broadway versions of 'Footloose' and 'Fame' making the transition to screen.

Yes. I was semi-defending the movie. People on various sites are already saying it looks like a horrible musical.

What!? Oh....make it stop. First, one "Footloose" was more than enough. And didn't the Broadway musical tank? I thought it premiered in DC at the Kennedy Center (getting terrible reviews) and didn't do to well elsewhere. Thought I read that. I don't know enough about Broadway to be sure. And "Fame"?? There's nothing wrong with the first film. Wow, Hollywood is REALLY beating a dead horse.

A musical I wouldn't mind seeing make it to the big screen is the UK version of "Taboo". I saw it in London and it was really good. I don't know if Rosie O'Donnell is responding for changing the show when it came to the U.S., but it really sucked. Which is why it closed. The UK show ran for nearly two years. And toured over there.

re: Footloose - the Broadway version with the new songs is surprisingly good. Haven't heard the new version of 'Fame' - which I think is still playing in London.

I thought John Landis was at one point doing a film version of 'Bat Boy: The Musical' - can't say it's actually happening cause it's not listed in IMDB.

Personally I love to see the film versions of 'Tommy: The Musical' which is vastly superior to the Ken Russell film. And 'The Secret Garden' - what a beautiful score and songs in general.

Never seen the play and most likely will never see the movie. So what happens at the end?

the characters break the 'fourth wall' and get the audience to get up on their feet, dance and sing along to three extra songs.

I think Amanda Seyfried is a beautiful girl but I dont know about this movie. It looks kinda gay to be honest.

It's ABBA, it's supposed to be gay.

I'm not sure who the core audience is for "Mamma Mia! anymore". I got two free tickets to see the show in London with a Virgin Atlantic package I got. My choice was that or "The Lion King". So I chose "Mamma Mia!". The place was 75% senior citizens (75 and up), and families. All singing and having a great time.

Why is Colin Firth in this? Seems like a miscast, like RW in August Rush.

This may be an obvious question but I need help because I've always been confused about this....Does "Mama Mia" and "Muriel's Wedding" have any connection other than the ABBA music?

As far as I know, the ABBA music is the only thing in common.
