Re: The Hobbit
In essence , if PJ made the EE versions and put them in theaters as opposed to the Theatrical versions.
I will say that as a fan , I am quite giddy with anticipation. I remember reading the subject of that White Council clip above in "Unfinished Tales." However, therein lies the problem. I have always felt that Hobbit should serve as someone's introduction to Middle-Earth. Even if most people who view these movies are fans, it should still be done in a manner to appeal to potential newcomers. Instead, it appears that it is something for the truly devoted geeks (like me), and that will cost this series in the long run I fear.

Re: The Hobbit
The Hobbit, the novel would make one good movie. Two is kind of stretching it, but there's still quite a bit of side stuff like the White Council and Dol Guldur that could expand the story beyond the novel and tie into the LOTR trilogy.
But most of the reviews I've read don't mention these things and just say that's it slow-moving and takes forever to get moving. So it sort of sounds like it's just the first part of novel The Hobbit with a few extra bits thrown in.

FWIW, I intend to see this movie, but my enthusiasm started to deflate once a third movie was announced. I wanted two good movies, and a third one just seemed excessive. The fact that they apparently decided to just make it three on a whim should tell you something.

as a fan of the the books, movies, games, really everything. I can't wait. I haven't watched the theatricals of LOTR since the extended editions were released.

AMC is having their LOTR trilogy marathon today. I thought of going if I didn't already have a girlfriend

Re: The Hobbit
Will you be able to get said girlfriend into Hobbit? Did you consider taking her to the marathon? I hope you aren't someone who sacrifices their own interests for a steady supply of booty.
One thing I predict is for this movie to have a largely male audience.

Oh yeah, she's interested in The Hobbit. She likes movies, just not to the extent that I do. The only time where we have the time to spend together is the weekend. And it's more than the booty, she's just a great person to hang with.

So, it looks like there's a Cinepolis theater (cinepolisusa.com) opening right next to my place just in time for this. They'll be showing it in HFR 3D, but tix are $22. Yikes. I hope the premium experience is worth it.

Re: The Hobbit
why is the theater doing that? that was never in the cards HFR screenings weren't a reason to raise tix price.

She wants to teach out here for a bit before thoughts of relocating. It's too expensive in San Diego to buy a house. Out here you can get a nice little house on some land for a fraction of where I lived. It's a good thing there's nice theaters out here. The Alamo Drafthouse is now fully functional and we need to check it out. It was previously an AMC with full menu services and the place of our first date

Back on subject am a little confused by the theater listing in reference to HFR showings. For the midnight showing they list 2 HFR showings, one in Atmos and one regular sound. Each is at different times. The next day's listing only shows one HFR show without Atmos.

Re: The Hobbit
looks like the same theater is pricing 'Life of Pi' 3D at the same price and that isn't HFR - what do you get for $22 ??? (a reserved seat? a free small popcorn? a pre-film massage??) they maybe luxury cinemas - but jeesh... that's outrageous.
thankfully I don't see any of the DC metro area 'HFR' screenings with any additional tix price adjustments.

Re: The Hobbit
Did anyone go to this? I went to it at a local Cinemark...movies were fun to see on the big screen again, but there were NO special Peter Jackson intros as advertized. Wondering if it was just my theater, or if everyone didn't have them.
