We have Regal here but none on that list. Hopefully AMC will post a list.

Nothing in IL at all. Even though I have no interest, that's surprising. I prefer to see it in 2D 24fps the first time to take in the story without being distracted by the new tech. I'll see the fancy version at some later point if it's available close to me.

Wow, one in Honolulu? I wonder if I should watch the 48fps one first or the regular? Don't want to have The Hobbit be ruined if I don't like the weird 48fps...

I do not know why, but I am not loving what I have seen so far on the hobbit.

Looks more "Kiddish" to me.

Any of those 48 fps have Dolby Atmos?

Have you read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings? The Hobbit is supposed to be more "kiddish", in your words, if they're following the tone of the book, especially its first half, which is where most of the footage we've seen comes from. The journey to Rivendell. The Great Goblin in the Mountains. The 3 goofy, silly trolls William, Bert and Tom who capture and try to cook the dwarves.

The Lord of the Rings has always been much darker and more epic than The Hobbit. A lot of people, it seems, are simply going to have to accept that fact.

If the new film looks a little too childish to you and others, don't blame Peter Jackson. "Blame" J.R.R. Tolkien.

No idea on the others, one could probably cross-check the theater lists.

Anyway, this is just Regal at the moment, other theater chains have yet to announce theirs.

Wow, wouldn't have thought it possible, but it is at my home base theatre. Now the question is when I will have to preorder tickets by to get opening night tickets. Excitement is definitely building.

Ohio has three major cities in Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati and the only theater doing this is in Dayton?

It depends on the projector tech. Most theaters have already migrated to digital projectors, and only some of them can be upgraded to support HFR. It doesn't have anything to do with population size.

That said, the list above is only for Regal theaters. This site has a list that includes a few other theater chains, including international locations, and lists 3 locations in Ohio:

Warner Bros is running marathon screenings of the extended Lord of the Rings trilogy (again) on Saturday, Dec. 8th, and Sunday, Dec. 9th. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at the same time as The Hobbit (12:00PM EST).

You know, now that election day is finally here I'm ready for that. It'll be nice to be ignored again.

Was kind of hoping we might see this in 2D 48fps. Fingers crossed (but not holding breath) for AMC.

You could always buy a set of 2D glasses:

There's already some AMC theaters listed on this site, although I guess they chain hasn't made any official announcement yet:

Nice, they've got this at the Spectrum. I assume the 48fps screening will be available on the IMAX, right? I may get midnight tix for this.

A 48fps is going to be close to me. Wondering if it will be worth the trip as what I have heard about the new frame rate seems to leave something to be desired.

foofighters7 11-06-12 11:25 AM

Re: The Hobbit

They are just doing the 48FPS to cut the length of the film.

Just think, if the movie is 3 hours long running at 24FPS then at 48 it will only be 1 1/2 hours long.

They can get more showings in per day thereby making more $$$. And they are only making the 48FPS for 3D which means EVEN MORE $$$ since the Theaters think 3D is worth an extra 5-6 bucks or more.

No Deal!
