This really sucks. The closest theater to me is over 300 miles away. So I guess opening day will be 24fps, and I'll need to make a weekend trip to see it in HFR.

It just occured to me that we're only about five weeks away for "An Unexpected Journey" being released. I really hope this doesn't suck. I'm not really sure how it could suck, but I hope it doesn't. If anything, I like The Hobbit more than LOTR. I want this to be a raging success from all angles...
Sidenote: It's amazing to consider that the final LOTR film was released 9 years ago. Put another way, nine year olds who snuck in and saw it in the theaters graduated from high school this year. It definitely doesn't seem like that long ago. |

Here's some info on HFR support on projectors:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...support-381871 The conversation focused on DLP Cinema projectors from Barco, Christie and NEC, which combined make up the majority of installations in the U.S. To get to high frame rates, the "Series Two" versions of these projectors require a software upgrade, plus an accompanying HFR-supported piece of hardware called an integrated media block (IMB). But panelists reported that there are an estimated 7,500 "Series One" projectors already installed in the U.S. alone. David Pflegl, director of technical services at Carmike Cinemas, explained that these projectors will not be capable of projecting 3D HFR content... Kirk Griffen, director of engineering at Harkins Theaters, offered an overview of the options available for upgrading IMBs from various vendors. He said Christie and Sony IMB hardware requires software upgrades that involve a fee. There is no fee to upgrade the software on the Doremi IMB. Dolby and Qube IMBs, he added, already support HFRs. It's entirely possible that theater chains will add to their lists as more projectors are converted; I'm sure they don't want to pre-preemptively list theaters that are scheduled to be converted in time, but haven't yet, especially when pre-selling tickets. My 48fps/HFR options at Empire Theatres were:

Just scooped up my tickets for the 3-D HFR screening. Luckily, my go-to theater will have that new projector installed by then. Glad I don't have to go all over the place searching for a screen. And it's reserved seating.
