if it makes more then 150 mil its considered a blockbuster.... with the hype coming with it now and the majority being positive reviews... this might be a bonafide success

That party has ended a bit. I'm thinking high 50% low 60% when all is said and done.

All that is negated since Roger Ebert liked it... It's true!

Now I have fans who say, "We are so sorry, Michael Bay, you still suck but we love you." That's what the director of "Transformers" told Simon Ang during an interview in Seoul. He could have been speaking for me. I think Michael Bay sometimes sucks ("Pearl Harbor," "Armageddon," "Bad Boys II") but I find it possible to love him for a movie like "Transformers." It's goofy fun with a lot of stuff that blows up real good, and it has the grace not only to realize how preposterous it is, but to make that into an asset.
Heh. That aside, it looks like a solid enough movie, I can't wait to see it tonight and decide for myself.

Thus far the movie has made $36m from overseas (it started late last week in 10 territories)

2 N Transformers $36,217,587 - 10 - $36,217,587 1

Breakdown of available information:

Australia - #1 - $6.8m - $18.5k per theater
Italy - #1 - $2.8m - $4.9k per theater
New Zealand - #1 - $1.3m - $15.4k per theater
Taiwan - #1 - $980k - $51.6k per theater

A large chunk likely came from South Korea as well, but numbers for the remaining 6 territories are not yet available.

Sorry for the mix-up. I was talking about the Rotten Tomatoes percentage (50-60%) not the box office take.

Two guys making shadow puppets on the screen could take in 50 million over the 4th of July weekend.

I think Transformers is capable of earning $150 million Tuesday-Sunday.

Spider-man 2 holds the 4th of July 3-day weekend record of $88 million. Its first 5 days was a $152 million gross.

Is this sold out near anyone?

At the theatre nearest me all seven showings are still for sale. There's seven other Fandango theatres nearby and they still show no sell-outs. I browsed a few theatres in other cities (NY, Philly) and it seemd to be similar there as well (few if any sell-outs).

How is it doing in your town? I figure members here would know roughly when it would sell out by.

I know this is an unfair comparison, but Pirates was sold out for all its showings by now, and even 300 had sold out its midnight shows.

When all is said and done, I'll say this movie makes at least $500M worldwide.

People seem to be authentically confused with the opening date on this one. Everybody I've talked to thought it started Wednesday with previews on Tuesday.

I checked 2 of the more popular theaters here and there is only 1 sold out show for tonight. Yeah, doesn't look like a huge rush to see it right away.

Initially it was advertised as "7.4.7", Wednesday.

Then about a month ago it changed to "7.3.7" for it's official opening, Tuesday.

Then about 2 days ago I saw an internet ad that said "7.2.7"!

I went on movietickets.com and all shows seem to start tonight at 8pm.

There's a few showings sold out already here, but not many. I think most don't realize that it's having 8pm showings on Monday.

Of the 2 AMC's I frequent 1 has 2 shows at 8 and 12a and so far neither is sold out. The other has 4 shows at 8, 9, 10, and 12a and the 8p show is "Greyed out" so I'm assuming it's sold out.

I was hoping to hit the 12a show tonight so we'll see if it's sold out by the time I get there.

I also agree that there's confusion over the start date.

It won't open as big as SM 3 or POTC 3 because the franchise isn't as well known yet. But this movie will make a ton based on word of mouth.

I think it could open just as big because it's the start of a franchise. For once, this a blockbuster film that doesn't have a 3 after it. I think this will be the 1 event movie for most families. The ones that go to the theater 1 time per year.

No sell-outs at the theaters around here. But as everyone has mentioned there is a lot of confusion on when it is opening.

There are some theaters locally that are showing it tonight at 8pm (even a little earlier). Then there are some that have a couple late (9-11pm) showings for tonight. Obviously on the 3rd there are a ton of showings, so people don't have to rush to see it.

I'm going to go see it with a buddy of mine tomorrow night. We are both huge Transformers fans so I'm really excited

I'll bet the crowds are still thinking July 4th.
