Just thought I'd make things more confusing!
Although the concept of the Transformers afterlife was briefly touched upon in the original series and Beast Wars series, it was not until Beast Machines that the concept was explored further. The Autobot Matrix of Leadership, as seen in the original series, was not merely a receptacle for the consciousness of deceased Autobot leaders - it was a gateway that led to the AllSpark - also called the Matrix - the Transformers afterlife, from which all sparks that had ever existed or ever would exist originated. Possessing a sentience, the AllSpark had sent Sparks out into the world, to live. And when the Transformer would pass on, their Spark would return to the AllSpark, and share with it all that it had experienced, thereby adding to the timeless fountain of knowledge and wisdom. It is apparent that ALL Transformers, not merely "good" ones, go to the Matrix. (Wiki) |
I liked this. I saw it on Tues night with my lady and we had a good time. It was nice to turn my brain off for 2+ hours and be entertained. I loved TF as a kid but it's been years since I was really into them. Seeing them on screen brought a smile to my face. I loved the scene when the Autobots land on Earth and begin to take form. Prime was awesome. Sure, some of the human element took away from things, and the pace slowed for most of the first act, but it was balls out for the last 40 min.
The thing I enjoyed most was that I went to see this to watch the Transformers, uh... transform. Thankfully they got to it real quick. They didn't make you wait 45 min to see the first bot to it's thing. That's why most of the down time didn't bother me, since I was still seeing bots on screen. I welcome a sequel. |
Watched it for the third time and paid attention to Starscream betraying Megatron angle. It's not really obvious if a U.S. fighter plane fired first or if it was Starscream. The scene before that, Starscream turns into one of the fighters after he couldn't stop all of the fighter planes. Behind Starscream were 4 or 5 planes. There were 2 planes ahead of him and you see those 2 pass by Megatron. Then the missiles hit Megatron, but doesn't show who fired it. So it could've been Starscream, the fighter planes behind him or both. But it's left for the viewers to decide, it's not obvious.

It's definitely not overt, just implied. It would be hard to explain to the average non-fan if they have Starscream fire on Megatron, even if it is pretty clear that he's just doing it to get the Air Force off his ass. I like the open-ended suggestion, personally.

Transformers 2 to be a prequel?
Sounds like the next "Transformers" movie – and after that record breaking opening, it’s a sure thing that there will be a follow up – could be the backstory of the intergalactic shape shifters. SKNR.net talked to Mark Ryan, who voices Bumblebee in the film, who said he’s “recently recorded more material for the DVD release of the film. It has to do with the Prequel that will set up the second film.” A prequel would rule out a return appearance by Shia LaBeouf, who essentially walked away with the first film, so that’s the only problem I see there. Otherwise, it might be fun learning a bit about the younger years of our transforming pals. MOVIEHOLE.net |

Maybe an animated prequel released before movie #2? Van Helsing did it and Hellboy has had a few cartoon movies related to the movies. It says to set up the 2nd film so it could be after movie #1 but before #2. Maybe about new TFs getting the message from Prime & heading towards Earth or Starscream getting other Decepticons to go to Earth.

Don't some TV series boxsets feature similar bonuses? |

I have to say the action scenes were great, it was the script I had problems with... and the fact that some of the characters that got established didn't have an ending character arch. Shia was great as always. The DLP presentation was very inconsistent - some scenes were there was darkness displayed alot of graininess and one shot Shia and the chick's faces looked like it warped/went out of focus for one brief moment. The film I thought felt like it was trying to hard to be liked by the average 15 year old.
Although I didn't have a problem with the framing of the action scenes, I thought Bay missed an opportunity to film this in 1.85 and not his standard 2.35. The transformers should have looked massive on screen, Spielberg knew full well that for Jurassic Park he was to film the dinosaurs to take advantage of the the floor to ceiling height that 1.85 can deliver, the wider the image the intent and imagery is lost. Regal's King of Prussia's IMAX screen briefly had this on their large screen, if Transformers were shot 1.85 it would have been apprioprately overwhelming on such a huge screen. oh well, rant over.... |
Things that kick ass:
1.This movie. 2.Optimus Prime. 3.Megan Fox. |
I was hesitant until some of the tv commercials in the lasy couple weeks
saw it today, I thought it was pretty good |
I still hate the fact that they turned Bumblebee into a camaro but it was pretty entertaining.
|
I thought Bumblebee being a camero would bother me, but it was one of the things I did like about the film.

Yes, Mike. We get it. Using a camaro means an extra $3m you'll be able to stuff in the g-strings of the assorted strippers that'll end up in your flick.. |

MOVIEHOLE.net SPOILER............................................................................................. Anybody that watched the the original cartoon knows that Megatron isn't dead. If he was dead they would have taken him out to the desert or something and nuked his ass. Instead they dropped him into the ocean for some reason. Go back and watch the first couple episodes of the original Transformers cartoons and watch what happens to Megatron. For those that don't know, he, along with some other Decepticons, end up at the bottom of the ocean, but lo and behold they aren't dead and proceed to come back time and time again and reek havok upon the Earthlings and the Autobots. Plus after the movie ends we see Starscream flying off, so he obviosuly isn't dead either. Finally, Prime ends the movie by "asking" all other Autobots that may be out there to come to Earth and join him. If that doesn't mean they're planning on another movie with new Autobots that have recently heard Prime's call and come to Earth then I don't know what does. On another note I absolutely LOVED this movie!!! I was pretty skeptical because I was a huge G1 Transformers fan. I have every single episode on dvd and when I heard about the live action movie I was not only shocked, but disappointed because I just knew Bay was going to somehow screw up my beloved Transformers...especially after I saw what the Transformers were actually going to look like. I went into the movie with extremely low expectations but came out VERY pleasantly surprised. Sure the Transformers looked different from the cartoon and yeah some of the dialouge was sophomoric and unbelievable and the some parts of the movie were very campy and cheesy but it was EXTREMELY entertaining. Everybody has to remember that this movie was not meant to be The Godfather or Citizen Kane or anything like that. It's about an aliean race of robots that Transform into Earthly vehicles who are looking for some all powerful Allspark. Sounds pretty stupid doesn't it? It was meant to be a summer blockbuster and not a movie to win awards or make you think or anything like that. I found it to be a great way to totally shut off my brain for 2 hours and it was extremely entertaining. Personally I can't wait for the sequel! |

At least in the movie he was a more effective fighter than he was in the cartoon, from what I remember. If he was a VW in this film, he'd be a midget among giants. And besides, TF characters have taken many different forms in their many different incarnations. I don't see what your problem is, nor do I think your hatred is properly directed at M. Bay. |
Not according to last week's EW....and I
As part of a cross-promotional deal with GM, nearly all of the Autobots were designed after GM cars, which will bring out a 2009 Camaro that looks like Bumblebee. "That saved me $3 million on the budget," Bay says. "It's not whoring the movie out." |
