Or maybe it's just people excited and enthusiastic about a really cool, fun movie that's worth seeing more than once.

kurupt 07-08-07 06:08 AM

I liked it a lot for what it was. I'm not as hyperbolic as many on here are (by no means do I think that it's the best summer popcorn flick ever), and I did like Pirates 3 better, but Transformers is a fun way to spend a couple hours with some kick-ass robots and great eye candy (to go with the obvious Meagan Fox droolage, Rachel Taylor has to be hottest computer hacker ever). As the summer movie season began, my expectations were pretty much: Spiderman > Transformers > Pirates. But it's shaped up differently with Pirates>Transformers>Spiderman.

Giantrobo 07-08-07 07:56 AM

I'm starting to get the feeling that some here an actually offended that some of us loved this movie. Go figure...

but that's the point. Why do they need Sam at all? They don't. They just need the glasses. It is a lame plot device meant to bring them together. It would have been just as easy to say the embedded crystals emitted a tiny "soundwave" that would bring them to Sam. Plausible? Not really, but we are talking about transformers here. At least you wouldn't have 30' alien robots talking about ebay. Like someone else said above, they were all acting retarded and juvenile anyway so I guess it fit right in for everyone else.

They need Sam because his character is the audience hook to bridge between humans and the 'bots.

they need the glasses, Sam has the glasses, therefore, they need Sam.

seems pretty simple.

I have a question about the music in one scene. It is playing when the...

Spoiler:
rusty old Camaro becomes a shiny new Camaro

...and this was in "Kill Bill" as well. I need this track! Does anyone know who it's by, or it's title?

Yeah, I thought of that one, but didn't think to look for it on youtube.

Just saw the movie and absolutely loved it. Great action, i enjoyed the comedy a lot, and the main character guy was pretty funny. 2 thumbs up and i want my blu-ray of this flick YESTERDAY!!

chanster 07-08-07 10:29 AM

I had that lunchbox, loved it. Looking at those toys really bring back memories. $1,000,000 is a bit steep though.

I got the 20th anniversary prime, man its gorgeous. Its worth the $60 bucks if you are feeling nostalgic. I never had Prime so I was real excited to finally get him after all these years.

I couldn't resist. I just ordered one form Amazon for $50.00.

Mr. Cinema 07-08-07 11:31 AM

I grew up with the cartoon so I was psyched about seeing the movie. Just caught it today and enjoyed it quite a bit. After a Summer FULL of sequel to this, and sequel to that, it was so refreshing to watch part 1 of something.

I'm not a huge Bay fan, but he didn't screw things up too much. The movie could have been better, but it was still a fun 2 hours. The effects were solid and so was the action, although it was difficult to see the fighting since the camera was frantically moving around.

A few questions/observations:

Spoiler:

I didn't like the fact that Megatron and Starscream don't show up until about the last 30 minutes. Yeah, Prime and Bumblebee are probably the most popular transformers, but Megatron and Starscream are just as important. It would've been nice to see more screen time from them. I loved the line from Megatron "you've failed me, yet again, Starscream." That was a nice nod to the cartoon series.

Did anything happen during the end credits? I sat through the interview of Sam's parents and then left. As I was going through the doors, I heard a jet, so I presume that was Starscream, since we never see if he escaped.

What other Decepticons survived? Blackout (police car) and Starscream were the only ones I didn't see get destroyed.

After the $152 million this film has made since Monday night, I'm sure this franchise will churn out at least 2 more films.

RocShemp 07-08-07 12:42 PM

Blackout was the helicopter. Barricade is the police car.
Spoiler:
I could have sworn I saw him get gunned down after the highway chase so I'm gonna keep an eye out for him when I go see it for a third time today.

Oh and Scorponok survived as well (albeit without part of his tail).

Fincher Fan 07-08-07 01:07 PM

I'm surprised people actually found Meagan Fox hot?!?

RocShemp 07-08-07 01:29 PM

She is hot. Not the hottest but definitely hot. What I do think is funny is that one time, while channel surfing, I saw a bit of some show on VH1 that claimed she has "the face of an angel". Angelic is not what comes to mind when I see her face.

Deftones 07-08-07 02:05 PM

Let's see. It was a good summer popcorn flick. The CGI stuff was amazing. I think the transformations were the most intricate effects ever seen on film. Outside of that, the movie was way too long. Trim it by 30 minutes, and it would feel better. The Sector 7 stuff was ridiculous. I mean, outside of setting up where Megatron was kept, there was no need for them.

Mr. Cinema 07-08-07 02:29 PM

I think all scenes involving Starscream were my favorites. He kicked so much ass. I also loved the chase scene between Barricade and Bumblebee.

Spoiler:

I found this on wikipedia regarding Barricade:

"Barricade is one of the main Decepticons in the film and the first Decepticon to speak; he hunts Sam Witwicky, before engaging in a fight with Bumblebee which leaves him wounded. He is later seen alongside Bonecrusher in the freeway chase ,and is last seen as Sam attempts to secure the Allspark cube. Barricade's fate is unknown as there is no scene depicting his death or escape.

However, it is worth noting that in the official comic and novel adaptations of the film, Barricade is killed by Optimus Prime, immediately after Bonecrusher is destroyed."

Mr. Cinema 07-08-07 02:47 PM

Here's another interesting part about Starscream from the movie, although I certainly didn't notice the bold part:

Spoiler:

from wikipedia:

In the film, Starscream arrives in time to aid the Decepticons in the final battle. Upon reuniting with Megatron, he is scolded by his leader in a manner reminiscent of his G1 counterpart: "You have failed me yet again, Starscream!". He destroys several human vehicles, including many other F-22 Raptors (in the process of doing so he disguises himself as one of the Raptors that severely wound Megatron, resurfacing Starscream's iconic treachery and eagerness to lead), and is the only 'confirmed' Decepticon to survive, though it's also possible that Scorponok and Barricade survived. An interlude during the end credits shows Starscream leaving Earth's atmosphere, leaving questions about his role in the future sequel.

RocShemp 07-08-07 02:47 PM

Yeah, I posted that article about Barricade earlier, Mr. Cinema.
Spoiler:
But I recall a Decepticon getting gunned down before they ever take down Devastator/Brawl or Blackout. I think that Decepticon was Barricade. Unless the robot I saw was either of the other two taking heavy fire and getting knocked down but not taken out. That's what I plan to confirm today.

Hmm. Given the way it's worded in that article, I wonder if Starscream actually helped in bringing Megatron down after he was initially laying to waste the F-22's.

Was anyone else reminded a little bit of Small Soldiers? The way that the good guys introduced themselves to the main kid, with all their personalities?
