I know I've already voiced my displeasure with Warner's over the two city release of 'The Final Cut', but considering they released 'The Director's Cut' in 1992 in multiple cities, this go around, seems totally unfair.

The same can not be said about something like Star Wars, even though it is 5 years older, the music doesn't "feel" like the 70s... thank God they didn't shove disco music into Star Wars!

I didn't want them to change that stuff, because I don't agree with the whole digital enhancement thing (i.e. walkie talkies instead of guns, jawas falling off of Rontos, etc...). Even the soundtrack with all the synthesizer and "futuristic" music that was used back in the 80s was too dated.

I'm with you there, Drop. To me, the music is timeless. It works because it's cold and imposing, not because they used synths for the sounds. It's a stunning selection of compositions and it's so well integrated into the film. Love it.

Vangelis did an awesome job of balancing Sci Fi elements and Noir flavors in the soundtrack and it works on many levels. The synth, yes even 80's synth
, will always sound futuristic. This film, with it's new vision of a possible dark future, was well served by the instrument. It's like, what else would you use?

I just saw this at the Landmark today thanks to this thread. I wouldn't have even known about it otherwise. It's truly a shame WB isn't giving this more exposure.
I was told the same thing as Peep... that it is playing through next Friday (10-18). The print was amazing... so clean and all the colors really popped off the screen. And the sound was excellent too. It's only slightly different from the director's cut... the main thing I noticed was the violence which others have already mentioned. Some of the FX shots were cleaned up too, but it wasn't anything that jumped right out or looked out of place like in Star Wars. It was pretty much seamless to my eye.
I can't wait for the DVD set.

Are the Ziegfeld shows selling out? I plan on hitting the 5:30 show to morrow but don't want to buy tix in advance in case I get held up at work.
[UPDATE] Saw it at the Ziegfeld today, 2pm show. Theater was 3/4 empty. But it was an excellent show, nice audio and pq.
And this edit held together nicely imo.
BTW, anyone who thinks there's a right or wrong interpretation to anything based on Philip Dick's writings clearly needs to re-think their position.

Finally caught it yesterday at The Landmark.
What an incredibly gorgeous picture! There wasn't even a single second that I noticed that it was digital. The images projected were just flawless and perfect. Even the end credits scrolling by didn't betray digital (white letters on black background)
I just wish The Landmark's sound system had been up to the visual's standard. The sound was good, but not great (which it should've been for a spanking brand new state-of-the-art cinema...)

How are the crowds at the Landmark? I'm seeing the dinner-time show on Thursday, so I don't anticipate a problem, but thought I'd ask.

Blade Runner: The Final Cut (DC's Uptown/Baltimore's Senator) - Oct. 26
I'm pulling this out of the BR: NYC/LA thread because The Senator wants a little help informing the masses that this is opening next Friday:
from Cinematreasures:
BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT will open in Washington,DC exclusively at the Uptown Theatre on Oct. 26, 2007. The film will also open in Baltimore, MD at The Senator on Oct. 26, 2007 and at the Landmark Harbor East on Nov. 9, 2007.

I did a confirmation email from the Senator - the one week run is indeed a 35mm print - I am assuming the Uptown will be likewise, since Warner Bros. has ponyed up the money to strike 35mm prints for select theatres - which would mean more (non-digital) theatres are actually presenting this where all fans should see this -on a large screen.
