It's like saying that people don't know how to enjoy a theater experience because they aren't at a Rocky horror picture show midnight screening. That only appeals to certain people. Certain people that don't make up the majority of those going out to the movies.

The majority think that Olive Garden is good italian food. McDonalds is the number one fast food joint for burgers. Does it mean the burgers are great? Doubtful. But they get the job done for those folks. Much like Blades of Glory and Wild Hogs gets the job done for an entertaining evening for whomever is into those films.
Personally, I see it as today's "modern" audiences not knowing good entertainment if it crawled up their asses and died.

Had Q. Tarintino released DEATH PROOF by itself we would be talking end of carreer, because the numbers would really have been bad.

That said, it would have had a better first week than the final gross of Grindhouse, and would still be a critically acclaimed film that you didn't like.

Why would it be end of his Career? I thought Death Proof was fantastic. Some of the best Car stuff I ever seen. Even on Ebert and Roaper they both said Death Proof was the better film and alot of people liked it? so why would it be end of his career?

Jesus, I'm ashamed to be both a (student) filmmaker and an American at the same time.

WTF? How is that a bad commentary on American culture? Blades of Glory and Wild Hogs appeal to vastly different audiences than Grindhouse. Might there be some crossover? Sure. But to say that it's offensive that Grindhouse did poorly is ridiculous. It didn't appeal to enough people.

ReduxGuy was obviously joking. His dvd collection consists of the same shit he's "ashamed" of America for liking.

Forgive me for chiming in here but the Universal Rule Number One In Film Discussions Anywhere is that you Don't Take A Shit On A Film You Haven't Seen.

I'm wondering the same thing. I have yet to see Wild Hogs, but Blades of Glory was entertaining.

I like a fare share of Tarantino movies but I have no intrest in seeing Grindhouse at all.
They have promoted the movie like hell on late night talk shows and im guessing daytime talk shows as well. Personally being in the minority that doesn't go to the theaters at all (to save money) & just buy the movies on DVD when they come out (its cheaper in my opinion and for me more convenient).
I althrough like smarter movies i actually would like to see Wild hogs, blades of glory & Disturbia (David Morse rocks!). I have no intrest in seeing are we done yet? even through John C. McGinley is in it.
Shooter went away fast.

You nailed it. I refuse to see them because they're making money, NOT because they look like recycled, unfunny shit. Yep.

I still have no idea what Grindhouse is about. Zombies? Cool, I WOULD have seen that had I known it. All I know is the guy from Six Feet Under gives a cute girl a gun on her leg. Thats its. Seriously.

(Even though I think in a previous thread I think I said I'd see anything QT directed) So, I will commence bashing the film because I haven't seen it. But I think I've seen enough from the trailers, plot details, and reviews to have a good idea. Guess I'll be waiting for the dvd.
I am sure you are not alone. Many notable films have historically been bashed, lampooned, censored and chastised by people who have not seen them. Scorsese, Carpenter and even Welles, not to mention countless others, have all been on that chopping block.

I really enjoyed the movie, but I acknowledge that it was right up my alley and am not bitter with the world for its lack of performance. I'm actually really grateful that something like this could even get a theatrical release in this day & age. And that someone with enough Hollywood clout & muscle power shares my nostalgia and had the desire to make it.

If the free market wants Bad Boys 3 or a Will Ferrell movie for every sport and boardgame known to man or whatever, so be it. I voted with my $9. If I'm in the minority, oh well, I've got plenty of dvds to watch.

Amen. Some of you need a reality check. It's all subjective anyway.

People who find DEATH PROOF having the the best carchase ever seen haven't seen enough movies like THE DRIVER, MAD MAX, ROAD WARRIOR, BLUES BROS. BULLITT etc. I can people being impressed with this movie, but someone like me who has watched this type of films don't impress me much. Kinda like when I saw MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME's carchase left me unimpressed after being wowed by THE ROAD WARRIOR.

I'm not sure what this has to do with box office, but I've seen all those films, and I still think the "Death Proof" chase was fantastic. I'm assuming, of course, that they used real stunts and not a lot of CGI, etc.

I don't recall anyone (in any thread) here saying that D.P. had the best car chase ever seen. I went into DP thinking it was gonna suck based on the initial reviews I read here, and I loved it. Different than PT, but equally as entertaining.

People can like different things than you. It doesn't mean they suck.
