Weekend Box Office 4/13-4/15 - Grindhouse drops out of top 10 in 2nd weekend

Frankly, I think Tarantino and Rodriguez have enough money and power to do what they want. Grindhouse 2 may end up costing a lot less, but I don't think it's not going to happen yet. Perhaps the movies will reign on DVD and rake in the dough. Perhaps Harvey will take his axe to them after all and then suddenly they'll start pulling in the numbers. Who's to say?

Love stories have more legs than Grindhouse films. Not to mention, the name Titanic has draw - its a tragic historic event. The LoToR films already had a huge established fanbase that almost gurantee'd success. This on the other hand, took niche films, tried to ride of filmmakers name that at this point, has most cred with film dorks.

If you look atthe list of all-time selling dvds you won't find early 1970's grindhouse type of movies on the list. Today's youth don't want to pay to see that. It's hard enough to get them to buy widescreen dvds because of the black bars on their square t.v.s!
As I've stated before this movie should have been a 90 minute movie with no DEATH PROOF boring chick dialog.

The problem is that most people think those old expolitation movies from the 70's are just bad cinema. Film geeks find them interesting, but for the general public, they're a non-starter.

I know some exploitation movies were better written than others, but none of them would be confused with Citizen Kane or Casablanca (or Out of the Past, or The Big Sleep, or Chinatown, or The Godfather, etc).
The whole point is that when they were well done they were good dumb fun, right? (Occasionally with a social statement or two, but still...)

That's what the general masses like. You don't have to agree with it but then again, you shouldn't have to insult it either. They are just films that have much more wilder appeal than a film like Grindhouse.
It's like saying that people don't know how to enjoy a theater experience because they aren't at a Rocky horror picture show midnight screening. That only appeals to certain people. Certain people that don't make up the majority of those going out to the movies.
The majority think that Olive Garden is good italian food. McDonalds is the number one fast food joint for burgers. Does it mean the burgers are great? Doubtful. But they get the job done for those folks. Much like Blades of Glory and Wild Hogs gets the job done for an entertaining evening for whomever is into those films.

I fail to see why some thought Grindhouse would do well; as other have said, limited appeal + three-hour running time = average BO at best. Movies like Wild Hogs and Blades of Glory are raking in the cash because they appeal to the causal filmgoer, and pictures with that type of appeal have always done well at the box office, probably since the creation of movie theaters.
And besides, Grindhouse will probably do gangbusters business on DVD (I know I'm buying a copy).

I frankly just want Grindhouse to make enough money so that the execs don't feel compelled to split it into two feature films when it gets released here on May 31st. I want the whole 185-minute schebang.
