Frankly, I think Tarantino and Rodriguez have enough money and power to do what they want. Grindhouse 2 may end up costing a lot less, but I don't think it's not going to happen yet. Perhaps the movies will reign on DVD and rake in the dough. Perhaps Harvey will take his axe to them after all and then suddenly they'll start pulling in the numbers. Who's to say?

In my OP, I stated that I knew nothing of the movie and maybe I was living under a stone because I never heard of it. But now I can see where this film aimed to go and points taken regarding its box-office performance.

Love stories have more legs than Grindhouse films. Not to mention, the name Titanic has draw - its a tragic historic event. The LoToR films already had a huge established fanbase that almost gurantee'd success. This on the other hand, took niche films, tried to ride of filmmakers name that at this point, has most cred with film dorks.

Just like Titanic and Return of the King....
Neither of those were rated R though so I don't know how you can compare. Most of the top movies are PG-13

There's no way a Grindhouse 2 would ever happen. I like to think that QT and RR wouldn't waste their talents like that again.

The guy who gets papers from the future should really consider using that power to help innocent victims of tragedies that he reads about in his early edition

Did you actually see the movie? I've seen you bash it in numerous threads but never mention what it is you don't like about it.

I really just want Inglorious Bastards. Whether Grindhouse 2 happens or not I don't care.

If you look atthe list of all-time selling dvds you won't find early 1970's grindhouse type of movies on the list. Today's youth don't want to pay to see that. It's hard enough to get them to buy widescreen dvds because of the black bars on their square t.v.s!
As I've stated before this movie should have been a 90 minute movie with no DEATH PROOF boring chick dialog.

The problem is that most people think those old expolitation movies from the 70's are just bad cinema. Film geeks find them interesting, but for the general public, they're a non-starter.

But, aren't they really bad movies, just made with flair and style? Isn't it the flair and style that the "film geeks" like so much?

I know some exploitation movies were better written than others, but none of them would be confused with Citizen Kane or Casablanca (or Out of the Past, or The Big Sleep, or Chinatown, or The Godfather, etc).

The whole point is that when they were well done they were good dumb fun, right? (Occasionally with a social statement or two, but still...)

Exactly. I wouldn't go see Wild Hogs again but it was at least mildly entertaining and sometimes downright funny.

No, I did not see the movie. After seeing numerous trailers and TV spots I decided I had no interest in seeing "what they were trying to do" a cheesy exploitation double feature. Perhaps the movie is decent but I am not going to see it just because QT did it. (Even though I think in a previous thread I think I said I'd see anything QT directed) So, I will commence bashing the film because I haven't seen it. But I think I've seen enough from the trailers, plot details, and reviews to have a good idea. Guess I'll be waiting for the dvd.

There's nothing wrong with the movie. The problem is today's movie going audience. How else can you explain the success of tripe like WILD HOGS and BLADES OF GLORY?

That's what the general masses like. You don't have to agree with it but then again, you shouldn't have to insult it either. They are just films that have much more wilder appeal than a film like Grindhouse.

It's like saying that people don't know how to enjoy a theater experience because they aren't at a Rocky horror picture show midnight screening. That only appeals to certain people. Certain people that don't make up the majority of those going out to the movies.

The majority think that Olive Garden is good italian food. McDonalds is the number one fast food joint for burgers. Does it mean the burgers are great? Doubtful. But they get the job done for those folks. Much like Blades of Glory and Wild Hogs gets the job done for an entertaining evening for whomever is into those films.

Yeah, that's not incredibly condescending at all.

I fail to see why some thought Grindhouse would do well; as other have said, limited appeal + three-hour running time = average BO at best. Movies like Wild Hogs and Blades of Glory are raking in the cash because they appeal to the causal filmgoer, and pictures with that type of appeal have always done well at the box office, probably since the creation of movie theaters.

And besides, Grindhouse will probably do gangbusters business on DVD (I know I'm buying a copy).

I frankly just want Grindhouse to make enough money so that the execs don't feel compelled to split it into two feature films when it gets released here on May 31st. I want the whole 185-minute schebang.
