Reactions for the extended cut of Death Proof overseas appears to be good. Among the additions:
More of girl group #1
New introduction to Stuntman Mike
The lapdance (The guys I've chatted with seemed to really love this sequence)
More of Sheriff McGraw
A caption, "Tennesee-14 months later"
A B&W sequence of Stuntman Mike stalking girl group #2 (Including more Ennio Morricone music!)

Just saw this, and really loved it. Planet Terror was just okay, 90 minutes of sleazy, cheap fun without really being any minutes of substance. But Death Proof was fucking brilliant. I loved the way Quentin patiently built up the tension during the dialogue sequences, made it feel like the action sequences were earned - we got to know these characters before they were slaughtered. The car crash sequences were absolutely enthralling, and the ending pitch-perfect. If they get split up for DVD releases, I'd definately buy the Death Proof DVD but would probably pass on the Planet Terror one.

Just saw Death Proof. Like Hostel was for 2006, Death Proof is the "Feel Good Movie Of The Year".
I'm just glad I didn't see the trailer for it before the movie. Hell, they practically ruin the whole movie for you!

Maybe if the second group had something better to do than go look at a used car...

TO ME, the first group of girls came across with zero depth whatsoever - I'm not saying that as a pejorative to Tarantino's writing, because I felt that was his intention - the girls were superficial bitches, only talking about sex, drugs and texting their BFFs. The second group of girls had a lot more depth and character to them than the first group, and therefore, when the tables turned on Russel, he didn't "turn" into a wimp, he was just revealed as one, since that's what he was all along. C'mon people, this is basic stuff.

I think it says something about a person depending on which half they enjoyed. For the me the second half is better if just for the last minute. The buildup and pay off is incredible.

That said, overall I enjoyed the movie enough to buy it.

I think if QT had actually followed thru with the Grindhouse idea of one hr short films (rather than 95 min and now a 110 min DC) he could've just stuck with the first group of girls and cut the second half.

I agree and was glad to see the first group of skanks "go". The second group kicked ass on many levels. I guess I just likes me some strong ass wymins

I realize I'm in the minority in that I LOVED Death Proof while thinking "Planet" was ho hum. I had waaaay more fun with Death Proof and felt far more satisfied when the credits rolled.

Caught Death Proof last night on DVD (skipped this one at the theater because I wouldn't be able to sit through back to back flicks and I have no interest in seeing Planet Terror but prob will when it hits dvd anyway).
First off, this is suppose to be Grindhouse Cinema people - I think a lot of people posting are missing the point completely.
Growing up, I remember a couple of family members exposing me to these types of films - they always had some crazy shit playing during family gatherings (I seen the original TCM when I was like 8 or something and I remember sitting in front of the TV scared shitless and unable to move).
Anyway, I don't remember much of the Grindhouse stuff or if you can even consider what I saw was actually Grindhouse but when I turned on Death Proof a TON of memories came storming in and I was freakin' glued to it.
I hear "There's too much dialogue" come on man - most of these flicks had WAY TOO MUCH dialogue (I actually watched a Grindhouse flick about 2 years ago, I bought it for dollar cause it looked so damn goofy - It was a bout a wolfman and I've never seen a film with more talking in my life) and they always eneded abruptly (like Death Proof did) and I for one was bathing in the mess of Grindhouse that Tarantino slapped on the screen - the first 55 minutes of this flick are a messy, digusting, masterpiece.
So when the color kicked in for the second installment I knew it wasn't going back but what did happen for me was something that doesn't come along too often.......It felt like a shift in time when we see Russell the second time in the second half - he now becomes the one that "doesn't belong" in the film whereas the first set of girls didn't belong in the first part of the film. I thought that was a brilliant move by Tarantino - it's almost like he's forcing you to now hate Stuntman Mike (which by the way in case you're wondering, I didn't end up hating him I actually got pissed at the film for the way they "did things" towards the end but shortly after it was over I thought to myself........"Wait a second, that was actually pretty damn cool" - once again Tarantino made me really like a scumbag that deserved what he got!!!
As for all the dialogue - yes, I even agree it can be a little too much at times but if it's not for you then it's just not for you. Personally, if you listen to it, you'll find some cool things that relate in the movie between both segments - I thought that was pretty interesting and there is still some talking I need to go back to that I missed the first time around.
Whatever though, I loved the shit out of this flick and will prob end up buying it. Kurt Russell nailed the role and I do wish there was more of him but Tarantino definitely did that for a reason.
5 out of 5 stars for me - almost fell to a 4 until I remembered that the girls at the end (two of them) were stuntdrivers (That was their parts in the film) as well.

Well, I loved the first half of the movie and while I didn't hate the second part. I was expecting a totally different result. Stuntman Mike went from being a badass to a pussy and that was something I didn't think was a good move and as for him being soft all along. I don't know too many wimps who would smash their car head on with another.

I loved that Stuntman Mike turned into a wimp. He's the big bad guy, and apparently he expected all his victims to run and scream and cry in fear, and he's completely shocked when these girls actually take him on.
