The Lookout (Frank, 2007) — Joseph Gordon-Levitt / Jeff Daniels

I don't think the trailer sells the movie too well. I wasn't excited about it... until I heard that Scott Frank was behind it.

Who, you ask? (As did I)

Scott Frank. He wrote/adapted Get Shorty, Out of Sight, The Interpreter...

Now I was interested. It's getting a ton of good reviews. It's definitely on my radar now.

It opens next week on March 30.

I saw the trailer and the TV Spot, trailer does the film more justice -- plus I don't think you can go wrong with Isla Fisher :O

Trailer looks OK. I'll see it just because I've always like Scott Frank.

I'll definitely be seeing this. Saw an early review on Ebert & Roper and it looks pretty good. Joseph-Gorden Levitt also picks some interesting roles that are worth watching for his performances.

Caught an afternoon showing of this, and it's terrific, definitely worthy of the great reviews it has been getting. And Gordon-Leavitt proves that his solid performance in Mysterious Skin wasn't a fluke - hopefully he will be remembered when the next award season rolls around.

I may check this one out as well. The trailer got my attention. It's currently sitting at 85% on rottentomatoes.

Getting some awesome reviews. Gordon-Levitt really deserves a break-thru role and major stardom.

Oy.

I really wanted to like this one. And don't get me wrong — I liked it. But I expected to be blown out of the water. As my friend said, "I was waiting for the script to get smarter and it never happened." And this isn't to say the script was dumb. Overall, it was a very well done movie, but it lacked that certain je ne sais quoi that would've propelled it to the level of other Scott Frank movies. Maybe I was expecting too much.

Honestly, nothing about it was bad. The acting was very good, especially from Gordon-Levitt, Daniels, and Goode (chanelling Karl Urban). The writing was witty, if a tad predictable. The directing was efficient without too much flair to bog down the movie.

One touch I really liked was
Spoiler:

the switch to video once the gunshots started in the bank robbery

It's not a particularly thrilling movie, but it's well done. But just like its lead character, it lacks something to make it truly great. (And no, I don't need a big action sequence).

If the trailer seems great or really intrigues you, go see it. I was expecting something else and for once the trailer was true to the movie. It's very good, but not on the level of Fargo or Out of Sight (to compare it randomly to two other movies).

I thought it was the best movie I have seen this year. There is no real "surprise" ending or unexpected climax, but I thought it was terrificly real and engrossing. Acting was superb and direction was top notch. I thought Daniels performance was Oscar worthy, and Gordon-Levitt was very very good. Highly recommended.

It was a good movie, the acting was good and it was very engrossing. I did miss some of the beginning since I was late, can anyone tell me what happens before
Spoiler:
Gordon-Levitt's character is in his house trying to unscrew the can of tomato soup and gets mad at himself?

My gripes. The movie was just plain it seemed. There was no layers to the story. What you saw was what you get, no suprises. Still I would give it a 8/10 for the acting and the script alone.

We see the accident and his daily routine four years later, along with the trouble he has remembering these activities.

Spoiler:
Gordon-Levitt's character carries around the guilt about the car accident---understandable. He was in some ways responsible for the death of his friends. The film ends with him making amends with his past, in a way. However, his actions arguably lead to the death of another friend: Deputy Donut. I really wish they would have addressed his reaction to that in a more meaningful way.

While I was glad the screenplay takes a lot of time to introduce us to the main character, Chris Pratt (Joe Gordon-Levitt), the film is better when it's a character study of Chris's struggles from suffering from car accident-related head trauma, and less so when the other half of the film gets into gear (Chris gets befriended by bank robbers planning a bank heist at the bank he works at as a night time janitor, and Chris becomes involved in the bank heist). Jeff Daniels' turn as Chris's blind roommate gave us some witty scenes, and Matthew Goode was also effective.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.

This was pretty good. It seemed the trailer gave away too much. there seemed to be way too much that I knew what was happening because I'd seen it in the previews. Good entertainment value and very well done. B-

Caught this one on DVD (unfortunately, I missed it in theaters) today. Pretty good flick. I'd give it a B. As someone said already, it's a good movie, but there's not much that stands out. Levitt's performance, as usual, is on point. He'll get an acadamy award soon.

Curious to check it out... I didn't care for Brick - Gorden-Levitt was good, I just didn't like the movie (and cast). Anyone not like Brick but enjoy this one?

Great movie. I really enjoyed it, but I was thinking that the bad guy would be the brother of the dead girl.

Just finished watching this.. Very impressive movie. Really enjoyed it. I think they need a prequel just based around the Bone character. He is bad ass

Didn't really like how the Luvlee story line just dropped..

Question:
Spoiler:
Was Kelly (the girl in the car) alive or was he just 'dreaming' she was alive and seeing her every day? I assume she really had died
