Watched this tonight. Gugino and Greenwood are excellent. The ending isn’t out of left field.
Spoiler:
The Moonlight Man is the physical embodiment of the monsters Jessie has had to live with since the day of the eclipse. In facing him, she finally conquers all her fears and can live in the light.

I thought this was very well done. James Wan wishes he were half as good of a director as Mike Flanagan.

Well that was decent. Better than average for King adaptations. Gugino and Greenwood were solid casting choices.

I don't recall much of the book, other than despising it, so I can't comment on it's faithfulness.

That said, looking at the trailer, this seems like a significant change:

Spoiler:

In the book, Gerald is a total asshole and IIRC she basically kills him by kicking him directly in the chest which triggers the heart attack. Looks like this version makes it more of an accident.
Your spoiler was what I was hoping to see. I'm not sure why they changed that - I can't stand when changes like that are made as well - there was no reason for it!!

It was actually pretty good - can't believe they pulled it off as the book does lose focus after a while (especially the end).

I'd actually watch this again as well.

Glad they showed the connection to

Why I think they had to change that...

Spoiler:

...in order to keep that in, they would need more character development scenes early in the story to establish that Gerald was a bit of an asshole but not evil. Without those scenes, her kicking her good husband and essentially causing his heartache makes her look like the bad one and guilty of killing her own husband (even though by accident, she's still guilty of killing him).

That hurts the amount of sympathy that the audience would have for her character otherwise without those extra scenes, so it's best to change it to keep the audience fully on her side without needing a lot of additional exposition to keep the audience with her. Basically, it tightens up the story.
