Damn, I saw Buttmunker created the thread and thought he was back.

Yeah, fortunately I recognized it as an old thread, especially with 24 replies. There are some old names on that proposed-casting list.

Also seems like eons ago since I actually read that book.

I don't plan to read the book, but it sounds like 127 Hours without the dramatic finish.

Ironically, at that time Scarlett Johansson made the "pretty but couldn't pull it off" list back then. Today, I would put her at the top of the list of actresses. Granted, I've never read the book, but she can convey more with a single look than most actresses could with a 20 minute monologue.

I would have considered this book to be unfilmable, but I like Flanagan, so it'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

It's been so long I forgot how the book ended!

Even this story about the director is old. The following is from 2 years ago.

Me too, but I think
Spoiler:
it got absurd at the end, which disappointed me.

I just read the Wikipedia plot and it seems slightly familiar.

Man, that was written in '92. No wonder it seems like a long time ago!

Ashamed to admit that this is the only Stephen King book I've ever read. I liked it and always planned to read more, but my attention span doesn't cover his typical novel length.

You should try his novellas if length is an issue.

Looking back at this thread and reading names... the typical Hollywood starlet just doesn't fit this role.

I'm not sure why, but Jenna Fischer from the Office just sprang to mind. Not your typical bombshell and kind of meek which would work great for this kind of role where the character has to overcome this ordeal.

I know I've seen a lot of the movies, but I'm not sure if I've read any others either.

Kind of down that route: Ellie Kemper. Don't know if she has the acting chops, but she has that meek look that would work.

This will be a tough one to pull off. Hope it's good. Enjoyed the book...a long time ago.

Looks like they shot this on the fly (which can be done easily since it's just one character for the most part) and are unceremoniously dumping it . I know Gugino has the acting chops but alas , it appears she will spend the whole time in a nighty and not naked.

You are correct about the ending, it's completely absurd and ruins the preceding story.

Re: Stephen King's GERALD'S GAME (D: Mike Flanagan) S: Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood

This is a guilty pleasure King book for me. I think the premise is great. The end of the story is garbage, but that's true with most King books. Looking forward to checking this out.

That said, looking at the trailer, this seems like a significant change:

Spoiler:

In the book, Gerald is a total asshole and IIRC she basically kills him by kicking him directly in the chest which triggers the heart attack. Looks like this version makes it more of an accident.

Not sure about the reliability of the source, but this review makes it sound great :

You had me at "hitting Misery levels of cringe-worthy tension"

Re: Stephen King's GERALD'S GAME (D: Mike Flanagan) S: Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood

I loved the book and agree that this will be a tough one to pull off. There is no way they are going to follow the book in full on
Spoiler:
The dog scene
either..I mean maybe but I doubt they'll take it that far.

I wonder if they'll show the connection to
Spoiler:
Dolores Claiborne
like the book did as well.
