You clearly never read the original story. The original film just used the premise of the short story as a jumping ground. This remake seems to do the same except that it's ditching the aliens (which were part of the climax of the short story).

Neither is faithful to the source material.

I immediately saw him the taxi driver. Lots of people remember that scene. So I expect to see it. Sort of how I expect to see an exploding mask scene. Anyone else?

And Wolf, just because the disc got moved to the "give to brother-in-law pile", it doesn't mean I actually gave it to my brother-in-law. I honestly don't think I did give it to him. My best guess is that I sold it to a used record store at a nearby college for store credit.

Then the movie wouldn't even be an hour long. The short story is ridiculously short (even by short story standards). Plus, not much happens. It'd make a nice half hour The Outer Limits-type episode at best.

That was one of the coolest parts of the original. They might as well rename it.

The original is a classic. It's a great roller coaster ride. It's one hell of an entertaining movie. I loved the stuff on Mars.

The original story by Dick only had memories of Mars. I might agree they should ditch the Total Recall name, but they aren't, nor do I care. The original is a fun ride, but it aint no classic. If it is, standards have fallen a long way.

So with Len Wiseman directing... take a guess who (most likely) is playing Melina since it seems Biel is not.

Not from what I've read. She is playing Lori, not Melina. Ethan Hawke also has a cameo, though no further details were mentioned.

what do you mean? I was sold on that snippet of information. Would have been neat to see wtf he'd do with it.

Unless my memory fails me, Cronenberg got as far as scouting for some locations, having worked on the script for over a year. In the end, he fell out with the production company, who didn't like Cronenberg's screenplay. Cronenberg had apparently stayed relatively true to Philip K. Dick, and what the company wanted was more like Star Wars, or Indiana Jones on Mars. (Which is what they ultimately got, of course.)

Come to think of it, after all the face lifts and botox Schwarzeneger looks like the cab driver now.

John Cho (Star Trek) has joined Total Recall, Sony’s remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action film that begins shooting Monday in Toronto.
