Re: Total Recall
Honestly I can't see how anyone paying attention to Total Recall can think it is anything BUT the very mind vacation he is paying for. The cartridge (or whatever it was) that had the vacation programmed on it was called "Blue Skies Over Mars". As the program loads in the background you can clearly see images of the Alien technology flashing on the screen. Also as he's describing the woman he wants to meet his eventual love interest's picture is flashed.
And Wolf, just because the disc got moved to the "give to brother-in-law pile", it doesn't mean I actually gave it to my brother-in-law. I honestly don't think I did give it to him. My best guess is that I sold it to a used record store at a nearby college for store credit.

Re: Total Recall
Then the movie wouldn't even be an hour long. The short story is ridiculously short (even by short story standards). Plus, not much happens. It'd make a nice half hour The Outer Limits-type episode at best.

That was one of the coolest parts of the original. They might as well rename it.
The original is a classic. It's a great roller coaster ride. It's one hell of an entertaining movie. I loved the stuff on Mars.

Re: Total Recall
So with Len Wiseman directing... take a guess who (most likely) is playing Melina since it seems Biel is not.

You've got the wrong idea :

(Cronenberg) was set to direct Total Recall (1990). He even wrote a few drafts of the script before Paul Verhoeven took over.
Someone on IMDB even has a copy of one of the Cronenberg scripts here : http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000343/b...&p=1#175082988

Re: Total Recall
Unless my memory fails me, Cronenberg got as far as scouting for some locations, having worked on the script for over a year. In the end, he fell out with the production company, who didn't like Cronenberg's screenplay. Cronenberg had apparently stayed relatively true to Philip K. Dick, and what the company wanted was more like Star Wars, or Indiana Jones on Mars. (Which is what they ultimately got, of course.)

Bill Nighy being cast as Quatto!!!! Ethan Hawke also has a dialogue heavy cameo, though no word on what his cameo is.

John Cho signs on for 'Total Recall' -- EXCLUSIVE
by Jeff Labrecque
John Cho (Star Trek) has joined Total Recall, Sony’s remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action film that begins shooting Monday in Toronto. Cho will play McClane, the smooth-talking rep for the mind-messing company that tempts Colin Farrell’s Douglas Quaid to implant fantastic memories into his brain. Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel, as the Hollywood Reporter and Collider.com reported, will play Quaid’s wife and his revolutionary girlfriend, respectively. Bryan Cranston has been cast as the futuristic villain played by Ronny Cox in the original film, and Ethan Hawke will have a small role as well. Bill Nighy, who worked with Recall‘s director Len Wiseman on the Underworld franchise, remains in talks, reportedly to play the revolutionary hero, Kuato.
