Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Kevin Spacey makes an amazing Lex Luthor, but I'm tired of him in every Superman movie. And I think that this new Superman should be a no holds barred, he should be getting his ass kicked and fighting back with super punches.
I say good move on Warner's decision.

Luthor could work, if he's behind the scenes manipulating things, but not the main villain. Supes needs someone to trade punches with.

As long as WB is seriously dedicated in bringing a Superman franchise back to prominence I'll be there. I think after the success of TDK they won't waste an opporitunity to make the best Supes movie they can.

Excellent decision - that would be awesome is Luthor is not in the next film...and Spacey wasn't that great anyway. Sure he may be an entertaining actor, but his Lex Luthor is pretty forgettable...I think Stephen Dorf's Deacon Frost (from Blade) is more memorable than Kevin Spacey's overacting Lex...I think the best Lex Luthor versions are from Smallville and the cartoons (even better than Hackman's Luthor)...
They should let Chris Nolan direct the Superman film as well!

Wish some of us could pitch a script/concept. How the heck do you even get in to do that?

I think I'm ready for the series to be "restarted." I don't think anyone needs an origin story, but clearly, trying to stick to the spirit of the original two just didn't work. It could have worked. It should have worked. But Singer tried to stick to the tone of the original while telling a solemn, quiet story with unexciting action and a dull, drab look. Warners Bros. should just start over.

Also out today is a news snippet where Goyer states that a lot of WB's DC movies are on hold.

When asked about several projects he's been involved with - i.e. Supermax, The Flash - Goyer said in a recent interview with IESB, "A lot of the DC movies at Warner Brothers are all on hold while the figure out, they're going to come up with some new plan, methodology, things like that so everything has just been pressed pause on at the moment. It was the double header of both Iron Man and The Dark Knight coming out, so more than ever I think they've realized, I think DC was responsible for 15% of Warner Brother's revenue this year, something crazy like that, so they realized that comic books, it's become a new genre, one of the most successful genres."

As long as it's a good script I don't care what they do. IMO however, having Luthor as a secondary foe is the way to go. Have Supes battleing a new villian while trying to keep an eye on Lex's (under the radar) world domination shenanigans.
As far as I'm concerned, keep Routh as Superman, Spacey in a minimal role as Lex, keep Bosworth as well (I'll take her any day over Kidder), write the Super son out, and let Singer direct a coherent script and we may have something.

From AICN, according to James McTeague:
God, I fucking hope not.
He stated the Wachowski Brothers had been approached to re-boot the franchise as a trilogy and they are currently reviewing their options as its like being asked to take the final play in a superbowl final. Says if they do agree, he will likely either succumb to providing second unit support on the movie or will champion the directorship of Plastic Man - He started to giggle as he stated its like a young child for the Brothers and they wont give that up easily.

well, if they take over, at least the movie would look good. can't say much else about it other than that, though.

Singer didn't exactly knock it out of the park, so why the hell not?
I could definitely go for this. Superman is supposed to be fun. Dump everyone but Routh and start over... and no Lex.

Why the hell won't Warner just do a straight up sequel with Singer and Routh back? Why do they want to do another fucking re-boot? I thought Returns worked just fine and with a better script, the sequel could be even better. Are they scared to commit to them again because Returns barely broke even?

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
AICN also had the suggestion of the Coen Brothers doing a re-boot with the "Early Years" Graphic Novel as the source; that would have been cool.
If the Wachowski's kept Superman true to the source but explored other villains and worlds, that would be great as it's up their alley.
Warner execs have said they want Routh back and he wants to be back, so I assume he will be. As far as Singer and "Returns," I don't understand why he should get another chance as he created a sub-par film.

This doesn't have me excited in the least.
Maybe after I see Star Trek and I end up liking it I'd be more for an action oriented reboot?...doubtful though.

Let them reboot it and do it right. Nail this one out of the park. I'd like a Wachowski approach.
