Maybe it's just a corner to me?

With now introduced, he is something that will need to be addressed and be a part of the future movies. He is not readily disposed of. They could easily have Lois transfer to an overseas job, Ma Kent can die, Jimmy can go to prison...But there isn't much they can do with the kid except keep him around. At least that's the way I see it.

Well, they suggested he inherited some of daddy's powers. When he realizes who his father is, you get instant abandonment issues and wham! A new supervillain: Neurotic-Man!

^^^ that might be interesting, but I doubt it would be written very well unless that get some fantastic screenwriters.

Instead of making Superman Returns a dream, maybe the next movie could introduce the DC multiverse concept and say that the Earth in Returns is one of the alternate Earths.

It worked for DC Comics. :)

I'd go for that. :)

It has been confirmed that Bryan Singer (X-Men) will return to direct Superman: The Man of Steel, the sequel to Superman Returns. IESB spoke to a source at Warner Brothers who confirmed Singer's involvement.

The story also provides insight as to who may be writing the script. Writers Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, who wrote Superman Returns, are out. So who is in? Well, the strong possibility is that the film will be written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The duo previously gained notice for their script writing on Transformers.

The pair of writers have apparently had "several meetings" with Warner Brothers regarding the film.

Brandon Routh, who played Superman in Superman Returns, has already confirmed that he will be returning for Superman: The Man of Steel as well.

Give me Brainiac!!!! If the kid has to show up, have Brainiac kill him quickly, and him and Supes duke it out for 2 hours

as long as they forget a kid even exists, then i will see the next movie.... if the super child is there, i will boycott the next movie

Geofferson 03-11-08 08:10 AM

I, for one, am quite happy that both Singer and Routh are returning.

I totally agree.

Am I missing something concerning the hate for Supes Jr.? I didn't find him that bad in SR, at least he pushed something and didn't lift it.

Ditto. Although lose the kid. please. I am perfectly willing to aforget he was ever there. Forget the dream idea, forget alternate universes, just make him go away.

Yup. If Katie Holmes (who didnt bother me as much as Bosworth) can be recast, so can she.

It's just an ignorant plotline to begin with.

Agreed with the others. I'm down for Routh and Singer again, but lose the kid and Bosworth. Hell Kevin Spacey wasn't all that entertaining either.

Daytripper 03-11-08 10:41 AM

This news just made my day. I was just thinking yesterday, when the hell are they going to get on with the next installment?

Patman 03-11-08 11:00 AM

The kid playing Jason might be over a foot taller, and his hair a foot longer by the time they start filming again. :)

FantasticVSDoom 03-11-08 11:31 AM

I wish they did it Incredible Hulk style and recast the whole thing...

I concur, also. It's about time that we get a superhero movie which doesn't completely and utterly capitulate to fanboys or the unwashed masses all the time.

Michael Corvin 03-11-08 02:24 PM

All he did was a pale imitation of Hackman's Lex instead of creating his own version like Rosenbaum has. I'd put him a distant third to Hackman & Rosenbaum.

Rosenbaum, ftw.

Mr. Cinema 03-11-08 02:26 PM

I'm very glad Singer and Routh are returning. I'm just wondering when WB will be releasing this one. I'm assuming Justice League is still planned for an '09 release. I guess we won't see Superman: The Man of Steel until 2010. :(

Isn't Rosenbaum's Lex based off the comics, as a businessman who becomes a corrupt Politician?

Maybe I'm missing the creativity, but I don't see anything new that he's brought to a character that was already well established in the comics.

Last I checked a comic wasn't a movie. ;) For the vast movie going public it is new to them. i.e. people that don't read comics.

At the very least it is a better attempt at a different version of Lex that we haven't seen on screen before. Better than Spacey's rehash of Hackman's land grabbing over-the-top villain. Of course he can only be as good as the script allows him and he didn't have the best material to work with. From the sounds of it if he returns, not much will change having the Transformers scribes on board.

Oh what a fall from X-men and X2 for Singer. :(
