Are they seriously talking about Robin Williams as The Joker? That would suck. I would like to see Justin Theroux play him, actually. I think he could pull of a very interesting performance.

There have been a lot of rumored actors that have been talked about for the Joker part, including Paul Bettany, Mark Hamill, Johnny Depp, Crispin Glover, Jude Law, Alan Cumming, Hugo Weaving, Steve Carrell, and the latest is Robin Williams.

Batman Begins is better but only barely IMHO.
Yes they are both DC superhero films but they are being treated very differently. Batman Begins restarts the series. No previous sequels exist we begin at sqare one and it is a really fresh beginning.
Superman Returns continues the story of the 1st 2 movies. We acknowledge this and so do the filmmakers and the world of Superman. Nevertheless both are well handled.

I liked them both a lot. Both had a good story and was well cast. No complaints about either but I picked Superman Returns only because Superman is my favorite superhero.

What are the similarities to compare anything on other than both are superhero movies?
They are two completely different superhero films. Do you honestly think Nolan could have made a better Superman film? Just ask yourself that. "I want to get Batman back to his roots" is what Nolan said in an interview. Well that's awesome and it worked out more than great but go ahead and try that with Supes - not gonna happen because it was already done with Reeves. Instead, Singer STUCK with the best material and made it better.
I love both the same for what they are but if you ask me which one I think is better I would start off by saying "I can't really compare the two, on one hand you have the advantage of grounding everything in reality (Batman Begins) and on the other you have an excellent example of how to make a character with outrageous powers seem more human and make the action and outrageous "going-on's" secondary but equally interesting" and most important, easily keeping an adult audience.
Once again, I love both pretty much the same due to growing up with them and even though Supes is my boy, it's nothing I would show favortism to. I love Batman Begins but they are both great in their own ways and I can't compare the two.
Just my thoughts anyway.

Batman Begins was a masterpiece, while Superman Returns was just very good.

As much as I enjoyed Superman and loved Routh, the reimagining of Batman in Begins with such a great story wins it for me (and I loved Bale).
Paul Bettany would be a great Joker. No to Robin Williams.

I don't understand the dislike for SR...It made me feel like I did when I watched Spiderman. I was watching onscreen what I had imagined as a child reading the comic books. While BB was ok, it did not make me flashback to saturday mornings when my parents would take me to the comic book store to pick up my subscriptions. Spiderman and Superman Returns had me imagining myself anticipating the next installment like a kid waiting for the next issue.
And truthfully I do like Batman better as a character...like Spiderman he is fallible.

Maybe one day we wont have to wonder which film was better between Batman and Superman:

And, by the way, Crispin Glover would be the perfect guy to be the next Joker:
But mold it so that he plays a version more along the lines of this:

Crispin as the Conrad Veidt (Gwynplaine from The Man Who Laughs) version of a dark Joker, would be perfect in the Christopher Nolan Batman universe.

Superman Returns director Bryan Singer told MTV that he would consider directing a Batman vs. Superman movie, but only after the Man of Steel establishes his identity more thoroughly. "I've thought about it for a long time — even a longer time ago, actually," the director revealed. "But I don't know who would be the villain. I guess Batman would be the villain, but then he can't be too bad, because he is Batman. So not quite yet. ... I think Superman needs to have his own movies for a little while before that happens." Either way, Singer insisted that "everybody's excited to do more ... and I'm sure we'll do another one."

I'll take SR over BB anyday. And I really liked BB. While BB was a good character piece, I think SR actually tapped into Superman's mythology better. The film was downright EPIC.
My fave superhero films:
1. Spider-man 2
2. Superman: The Movie
3. Superman Returns
4. Spider-man
5. Batman Begins
6. Unbreakable
7. X2: X-Men United
8. Superman II
9. Batman Returns
10. Batman
Honorable mentions: X-Men, Blade, Sky High (hey, I enjoyed it!), and parts of Hulk, X3, and Daredevil.

Another BATMAN BEGINS vote.
I'd give Superman Returns a marginal thumbs up, and even though in general I prefer the Superman character, and even though I like Singer as a director, the movie was still unsatisfying. The evil plot was a retread, and Routh managed to be boring both as Clark and as Superman.

Loved them both, but definitely give the edge to Batman Begins.
Batman is a better character, and the movie was better as the acting was better and it had a better storyline. Getting inside the reasons Bruce Wayne became Batman in such detail was much more interesting than the love triangle in Superman Returns.
