Batman Begins or Superman Returns?
Which one did you like better and why?
|
Where's the option for "Yet another Superman thread? *GROAN*"
Anyway, I prefer Batman Begins simply because Batman is my favorite superhero. He doesn't need a bunch of lame superpowers to survive. -smile- |
Batman Begins Easily

Batman Begins easy... no kid involved

Batman Begins.
|
Batman Begins no question but Superman was awesome...
|
Just got back from "Superman Returns". It was enjoyable and entertaining enough I suppose but also rather uninspired...felt way too much like a re-make/sequel, a bit archaic too....and if you take away John Williams' music.....I don't know, it just wasn't particularly memorable. I'm not a huge, huge fan of "Batman Begins" or anything but I thought it seemed more fresh, and the casting was much better than "Superman Returns". Brandon Routh was good, especially in the Clark Kent persona, and the James Marsden character was interesting, but I didn't find Kevin Spacey or Kate Bosworth to be particularly memorable (same goes for the rest of the cast).
Batman Begins is the winner in my book. |
Batman Begins for the simple reason that they took this well-known character who everyone knows and reinvented the character to seem fresh and real. They breathed life into a "dead" franchise and what they breathed into it was clarity of where this franchise will go. Every supporting character was reworked; the whole world seemed so fresh.
While Superman Returns was good and sometimes fun, it just retreaded again with the minimal of changes that weren't really for the best (superkid?). Hookie villian plot, Superman still has no real bad villians to face off against, casting wasn't the best (even though you could say Katie holmes was BB weak point, she still fit in better than Bosworth did in Lane's role). winner: hands down Batman Begins! |
Batman Begins, and it is not even remotely close...Spidey 2 and X2 are both better than either of these films...for what it's worth.
|
Please, this is DVDTalk so the winner's pretty much a certainty. However, I still voted Superman Returns. Not to go against the grain, but because I did enjoy it more.

On topic, I forgot to answer why. I just got engrossed in the story more. I bought everything. From Routh to Bosworth, to the f/x, to John Ottman's inclusion of Williams' themes, upto the introduction of the kid. Which is not to say I didn't like Batman Begins. I just wasn't THAT in a hurry to go see it again after the first viewing. But with this one, I can't wait to go back and enjoy it all over again. |
I've yet to see Superman Returns, but I don't think I can think any movie can top what Batman Begins did for the superhero franchises out there.
|
I voted for Superman...just from a "fun" factor. I liked Batman Begins, but it's not a "popcorn" flick the way Superman Returns is. In other words, while Batman is probably the better movie, I'll probably wind up watching Superman twice as often once it hits home video.

Batman Begins by a mile.
I was quite optimistic going into Superman Returns, hoping it would give a good, fresh start to the franchise. I was entertained by it, but I didn't walk out feeling inspired, like I did after seeing BB. There were moments in Batman Begins where I had chills running up and down my spine. Nothing like that in Superman Returns. They should have taken some more time for character development of Superman himself (rather than Lois, her kid, her fiancee). Then I would have cared more when he "died." Batman Begins (and the Spider-Man movies) got it right by making us understand and care about the hero and what makes him tick. Superman Returns only did this at the end, when he talks to his sleeping son. Too little, too late. Bryan Singer is over-rated. |
Batman.. even though I dug Superman Returns a good bit.
|
Batman Begins, no question. Although, I have to admit that I'm a bit biased because I've always been a Batman guy over Superman. I like Superman, just not as much as The Batman.
|
Where's the "liked them both equally" option?
|
"Batman Begins". It had everything "Returns" didn't. A plot. Acting...and everything else, frankly.
|
Batman Begins. The action was great. Plus the toys. Unfortunately, Superman doesn't need any toys. Batman does and they're freakin awesome!!
|
As much as I was pulling for Superman Returns to be the current champion of recent comic book movies, it just wasn't.
I put it in third place -- behind Batman Begins and Spider-Man 2. |
I can't decide. Both have an even amount of flaws that is greatly outweighed by the story, directing and acting.
|
I am going to go with Batman Begins. While I enjoyed Superman Returns A LOT (and much more so than any of the previous versions), I felt that Batman Begins did a much better job at rebooting the franchise, and owed the previous movies nothing. Batman Begins has as much in common with the previous Batman movies about as much as the Spider-Man movies have in common with the 70's series. Batman Begins did a much better job with reimagining everything in the Batman Universe.
However, where I feel Superman Returns failed is in trying to give pay back to the first Superman movie. As good as it was (and it was not great, sorry, folks, but it was just not that great....too much silly stuff in there and I didn't care for most of the actors playing the major roles) I think that Superman Returns would have been better if it tried to totally reimagine the Superman Universe. This idea of Krypton as an ice world never worked for me, and Metropolis looked like a run down Manhattan. They could have take a cue from the animated series (the Bruce Timm series) and gone with a much more beautiful utopian Krypton and also perhaps a much more sleek and modernized Metropolis. It spent too much time going back to the previous movies and ignoring most of the other aspects of the Superman universe that they could have taken cues from. |
Bryan Singer vs. Christopher NOlan?.... puh-lease!
Batman Begins, landslide. Nolan is definately the superioir film-maker |
