Oh, Kirsten Dunst was wearing a wig in Spider-Man (if you blow up some of the frames from that film, you can see the hairnet within her hair).

Just commenting on the use of wigs in movies (when it appears that the actress or actor isn't wearing one because I was surprised to find out that Dunst was wearing a wig since I had assumed she had enough hair for MJ's hairstyle).

Saw Superman this past weekend. Only mildly interested in what Singer would do with it. Good special effects. Nothing spectacular. Paper thin plot and characters. Routh had some similarities to Reeves but lacked charm. Also looked too young as did Lois Lane since she didn't hold a candle to Margot Kidder. No dynamic tension between this Superman and LL. I was thinking "who cares?" the entire time.

Long movie that should have been edited down a half hour. Ego trip for directors I suppose to make them longer to seem more epic and important.

Actually, it's probably more along the lines of "millions of dollars spent on special effects/directive from studio to Singer that he damn well better keep almost all of them in the movie, since Warners paid for them"

I thought it was very good. Not great, but very good. **** out of *****.

I thought Bosworth did just fine, but she just looked too young.

Spacey was perfect.

Clark/Supes was underwritten. It felt at times that he was a supporting character in the movie even though his name graced the title.

I was disappointed w/ some of the FX, particularly the close-ups on Routh's face when Supes was flying.

I didn't mind the storyline for the most part, including the kid (surprisingly).



Now I'm debating how much of this thread that I want to read.

I've already posted a mini review somewhere in this absurdly long thread....but it just occurred to me how little Lex and Superman (the protagonist and antogonist) see of each other in this film. Is it more than a minute or two of screen time?

I also remember thinking that Parker Posey could have easily done a Margot Kidder impression...she even sort of looks like her. I know I shouldn't be thinking something like that DURING the movie, but frankly, I was bored.

Did Kevin Spacey play one of his own henchmen? There was one guy that looked so much like him I got confused during the museum robbery.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The shuttle sequence was incredible and the CGI is getting so much harder to spot. I don't know if it was mentioned or not but the writers had a cameo in the movie which I thought was funny.

I think some are being overly critical and even I myself was initially not that into Routh or Bosworth, but I was pleasantly surprised by their performances. The kid was a good twist to the storyline and I'm glad that they did that. I was pretty sure what the outcome was going to be when they had him in the movie and sure enough they did what I thought.

Kevin Spacey is awesome as Luthor and I hope they bring him back again for the second one if they keep him as the villain.

I know Lex was wearing a long haired wig but it cuts to a guy with a Verbal Kint style haircut slinking forward toward the power switch before throwing it.

We then cut back to long haired Lex but they both look like Kevin Spacey.

I saw this tonight at Grauman's Chinese in digital projection. The picture and sound was amazing, and I thought the film was as well. Brandon Routh did a great job as Superman/Clark Kent, and Kate Bosworth didn't bother me as much as I thought she would. Actually, she didn't bother me at all; same with the kid, he was well handled.

I'm surprised by how many jaded reviews I'm seeing in this thread and elsewhere (including the two idiots sitting behind me in the theater). I'm beginning to feel like not entering these types of threads anymore (and avoiding internet reviews in general), because it just makes me grimace at how much people can dissect a perfectly good film by looking at every little detail of how the film was constructed scriptwise, editorially, casting, etc. Overall the film was great, and when I see it again I may notice plot holes and inconsistencies, but my first impression was that I really liked it.

I'll just say this: if there were plot holes et al, they weren't immediately apparent to me, like they were with XMen3. This film had me more caught up in it than XMen3.

Or maybe he just enjoyed it that much? I don't see why those with gripes about the movie can't seem to accept that some of us really like it and post their opinions as "fact". He said it right there, "when I see it again, I may notice..." so he's not blind to the fact that the film has flaws.

Anyway, my fiancee back home saw it in IMAX3D last night and she says she loved it. And she's not really into Superman like I am.

No alot of us just realize that its a comic book movie.

You can find plot holes in almost every movie especially popcorn flicks like this one. They are supposed to be somewhat mindless entertainment. Fine tooth combs need to be left at the door.

I mean come on, we are watching a movie about a guy who flies around in tights and bullets bounce off him.

I saw the Original Superman at Grauman's back in the 70's. They were even selling movie programs like the ones you get a concerts. I wish I still had mine. Anyway, I was 7 or 8 at the time and it was a fond memory.

I might give this another shot when it comes out on DVD. It will help being able to fast forward through about an hour and half of it, and just watch the few scenes I did enjoy.

I too was too entertained to notice the plot holes. As far as the action scenes compared to Xmen3 - the ones in Superman were far more exciting and had an uplifting feel to them, the sight of Superman after he stepped out of the rescued plane had a tear in my eye.

as far as audience - the folk at the Udvar-Hazy IMAX screening were soooo quiet, too quiet if you ask me.

I just have a different mentality when it comes to popcorn movies.

That said, Im also probably more forgiving of those movies that I actually enjoy.

DVD King, if you are counting people not noticing Superman/Clark Kent's simultaneous 5 year vacation as a plot hole, then I think you've got it very wrong. That is the conceit of every film, every comic book, every TV show that has ever been made about Superman. That's the big joke, that Clark is always somehow missing when Superman shows up, but no one ever puts 2 and 2 together. This is not a plot hole.

You accused me of wanting to like the picture. After reading all the reviews around here, I wasn't really hoping for much, but I was really surprised when I actually sat down and watched it. I might ask why are you so willing to hate the movie so much? At some point, you must turn off your brain and just enjoy the movie in the present, instead of dissecting every thing that whips by your eyes on the screen, otherwise you aren't going to enjoy anything.
