I never read the book , but am interested in the topic, and trust the peeps behind the film to make a decent picture, so I'll see it regardless of the reviews.

I wonder if it's being targeted more towards people that have read the book or those that havent?

The RT fun has started, with a 20% score so far. They are talking about the horrible reviews on FoxNews right now also.

I'm gonig to enjoy this backlash.

Wells liked the Poseidon remake. Right there that tells me "Da Vinci Code" will be a modern classic.

The Break-up and the Omen follow X3 and then Cars drops on June 9. Those will put dents in its earnings.

alot of the bad buzz is just internet geeks that hated the movie from the day when they announced Brett ratnter was going to direct. Most of the complants I hear is stuff only Comic book geeks would notice. So far all the footage I have seen isnt any worse then any of the other two. Plus the action looks great

I'm pretty happy about the backlash, I just hope it translates to a poor BO take as well. I thought the book was pretty poorly written and I can't stand the glossy Hollywood package it looks like.

I'm actually enjoying the book despite it's absurdity, but I won't mind at all if the film is recieved poorly.

I was planning on seeing this. But as the release date approaches I just really have no desire. I think it has to do with the fact that since I already read the book, I already know what happens. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but since it's a mystery, and since I already know everything that happens, I feel like I'd just be sitting there and being like "bored now..."

I can see it now.
Spoiler:
What are these numbers next to the dead man who looks just like Da Vinci's painting? "The security code to the bank!"

What's the rest of this crap? "Anagrams, just rearrange it biatch!"

So dark the con of man? "Again, it's a bloody anagram, rearrange it, let's go!"

Why is Sophie all estranged from her grandfather? "Because she saw her grandparents banging, a sight that would disturb even the most twisted individual..."

Whoa, wait a sec, Teabing is the bad guy? "Well yeah, I knew this even before I read the book seeing as the previews completely gave it away. Yawn..."

Seeing as they're probably gonna have to stick pretty close to the plot of the book, yeah, afraid I'm gonna be quite bored with it...

DVDTalk: Where film and literary snobs come to bitch!

I liked the book, and I'm sure I'll like the movie.

The bad reviews probably won't kill it this weekend. Sony was wise to keep the reviews from coming in until close to opening date. But I bet this film will see a really big drop second weekend. Over the Hedge could beat it in the long run, as successful kids films play a lot longer.

The 20% score at RT has been changed to 0%. It looks like the fresh review was listed as positive by mistake. I was wondering why they had it listed like that, since it was talking very bad about the movie. Here is the quote of the one that had the rating changed:

"Perhaps an interesting side-piece to those already fanatical about the book, but ultimately a lifeless adaptation that reveals the flaws of its source. So Dark, the Con of Dan Brown."

I liked the book because it was an effective page-turner with lots of Gothic settings and the sulfurous atmosphere of disrespect for Holy Mother Church. But I will not see the movie because of those two clowns: Tom Hanks and Ron Howard whose talents are more suited to "America's Funniest Home Videos".

I wouldn't exactly characterize either as "clowns." Are you confusing Hanks and Howard with Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller?

Wow, so you think all actors and actresses are clowns. I don't know how you can ever enjoy anything.

EDIT:

Ah, I just noticed this quote:

Using a Simpsons caricature as evidence of Ron Howard being a "clown?" You really are scraping the bottom of the barrel there, ain't ya? Moving along ...

It's going to be a hard film to trust others opinions on.

Religious people are going to bash it just due to the content. Many people hate Howard and bash everything he does.

This is one film I especially knew from the outset that I'd just have to see for myself and ignore the reviews.

I liked the book a good bit, and thought it would make a good movie while reading it. Howard is a great director IMO, the trailer looked good, so I'm pretty confident I'll like it.

I hate all the bashing it's getting for the "absurd" plot. It's based on the book, if you didn't like the book and it's plot, you won't like the film. And this is again just probably negativity coming from christians/catholics in many cases.

I got sick of similar comments from people who saw the Tom Cruise "War of the Worlds."
Spoiler:
The aliens die from the common cold??!?
Yeah, jackass, you only had 100 years to figure that out from the book the movie was based on.

The quotes we're seeing today from the critics have been on dialogue, acting, pacing, etc..

Laugh all you want but when you consider that Over the Hedge is just over 90 minutes long they can show this film more times per day than The di Vinci Code, which is around 150 minutes long! Also, more family-oriented films tend to have "legs," and I expect Over the Hedge to do over US$100 million rather easily.

Yeah, I agree, I think that was an unnecessary dig given that all 7 out of 7 negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes have come from the Cannes crowd. And I'm no expert, but I wouldn't think that's the biggest Catholic crowd in the world. I think they're just saying it's not a great movie, no matter the source. I think a couple said that the book was bad so the movie did what it could and some said that the movie ruined the book. Either way, before it's even widely released it's tough to believe it has anything to do with the religious angle.
