I'll be catching a screening of it tomorrow. I had pretty much avoided the hype surrounding this flick but the last day or two has me looking forward to it now. At least it couldn't possibly be any worse than Woo's crapfest.

Cruise's V.O. in II was quite annoying and stupid, not to mention all of the idiotic slow mo shots. Some were okay, but that was overkill.
One thing I can give the M:I series is that each movie pretty much is what it is.
The first was a spy thriller with some touches of noir directed by Brian De Palma. The second one was pretty much a stylish PG-13 action flick directed by John Woo. The third will be an M:I movie made by the guy who did Alias and Lost, JJ Abrams. In short, if this one comes across like its a variation on Alias, it might be because that's what it will be.
In short, each one looks about the way you would expect it to look and feel when made by the filmmakers in question with a PG-13 rating required. I know it sounds strange, but it's about the way I see them.

The confusion: the Los Angeles Times rack was fitted with a digital musical device designed to play the “Mission: Impossible” theme song when the door was opened. But in some cases, the red plastic boxes with protruding wires were jarred loose and dropped onto the stack of newspapers inside, alarming customers.
Sheriff’s officials said they rendered the news rack in this suburb 35 miles north of downtown Los Angeles “safe” after being called to the scene Friday by a concerned individual who thought he’d seen a bomb.
Times officials said the devices were placed in 4,500 randomly selected news boxes in Los Angeles and Ventura counties in a venture with Paramount Pictures designed to turn the “everyday news rack experience” into an “extraordinary mission.”
It was just that, at least for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arson squad, which destroyed the box.
“This was the least intended outcome. We weren’t expecting anything like this,” said John O’Loughlin, the Times’ senior vice president for planning.
The devices are to remain in the boxes until May 7, two days after the film is scheduled to open.

Just some quick thoughts. Considering how bad the last film I was surprised at how much better this film was. Cruise actually worked as part of a functioning team, relying on them doing their job so he can do his. There were also so many moments throughout the film where it was believable that he could die at any moment. No (or at least, very few) 'superhero'-isms in this one from him just very believable (for this type of film) and gritty. I'll put some more impressions up when I have time.

good movie... cruise was surprisingly good and hoffman was great.... good movie...

Cruise has been good in everything hes been in, even if the movie wasnt the greatest

Rottentomatoes really needs to become more selective in the reviews they allow to be factored into their tomatometer. I'd like to see only objective reviews of movies, not some personal rant on Tom Cruise.
