Love them all, but I did think FOTR was the strongest, followed by TTT. Part of that I think is because for me, watching the story begin was funner than watching it end. Also the comedy really underminded the last two's effectiveness, plus the lighting in ROTK was too bright. I'd definitely give FOTR ****. Maybe ***1/2 for the last two.

As much as everyone complains about the "multiple endings", imagine if they had included the scouring of the Shire. It's somewhat anticlimactic as literature, it would be deadly as film. Film was nearly 4 hours as it was. Another half hour would have been too much for all but the most fanatical of fans. Would have been nice, but maybe if it had been a miniseries instead of a feature. Same goes for Tom Bombadil. He was only in the book to give them an adventure on the way to Rivendell. Doesn't add to the plot.
Anyway, I don't even count the theatrical cut the real versions. Saruman was in the real version.

You should check out a LOTR forum. They aren't kidding. Of course they lost all credibility when someone said that the movie should have been 30 hours long and everyone agreed. They don't want a movie, they want "books on tape" but with visuals.

Just finished watching all three of these magnificent films not just an hour ago, and was going to find a thread and start posting away. Just have to go down on cyber space saying that these are some of the best films I think i will ever be fortunate enough to watch.

DVD Talk Special Edition
1st time I saw them, I thought they were great. I still like them, but watching them a second time, they really started to drag. The entire trilogy could be an hour or two shorter if they would have decided to not stop the films every five minutes to show Frodo and Sam crying to each other or Golum arguing with himself. It's a hard journey....they dont want to keep going...I get it. No need to keep reminding me every five seconds. Instead of extended editions, I think these films could really benefit from a few more cuts.
Good films, I just dont find them to be as great as others do.
Just my opinion.

And yes Stars Wars is the better film series.
