What does the length of a thread have to do with anything? Just curious.

I'm part way through the visual companion right now, and I'd recommend it for people who loved the movie & Serenity in general. The first half has an interview with Joss (goes from interesting to dull) and a few bits of background on everything which were very interesting. The second half is the shooting script, and it really makes you take notice of certain things (at least that I never would have caught) along with some missing scenes from the film (some of which were shot).

Has anyone read the book yet (the movie adaptation of Serenity)? I was wondering if that was worth picking up also.

I own both books, but I haven't read them yet, outside of the Joss interview.

Well, there was a great article about it in yesterdays, LA TImes Calender section about Whedon's struggles to shoot the project in L.A. It will probably be avaliable at http://www.calendarlive.com in a few days if you are interested.

Got a quick question about a part in Serenity. What is on the screen when River looks at the TV? Is it a commercial? Cartoon? TV show? Wash makes reference to it, something like the Fruity Odie Bar?? I did a Google search and didn't find shit. can somebody explain what this is? Also was this ever mentioned/featured in the Firefly TV show at all? Thanks

I'd never seen it in the show before but I believe it was a comercial for some futuristic snack food.

I took my mom to see this on sunday (she loves the series but I still had to convince her to see it theatrically *l*) and am having a heck of a time to convince my dad not to buy a Serenity bootleg and just go see the movie in theatres.

According to IMDB, you're not alone. Sadly, I didn't see it.

Perhaps a bit off topic and old news - but since I just noticed it the other day, thought I'd mention it in case anyone didn't know.

In the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA mini-series, or, first disc of the US Season 1 box set, you can see Serenity (the ship) fly by in the background of the first scene featuring Mary McDonnell's charachter. It's at about 14:40 minutes in, and look in the upper left hand corner of the screen to see her.

Recon that because the movie and the series are made by Universal, that's how they were able to pull it off. Anyway, nice tip of the hat on the creators of BG's part.

And on a more topic related note, early rumours are that Serenity on DVD could be out as soon as 12/20, this year.

Actually, the reason the ship made into the series was because the same visual effects company that did Firefly also does BSG.
