It is a worldview that sees nothing off-kilter or one-sided in the JVP prescription for peace: "Palestinians must stop suicide bombings and other attacks on Israeli civilians," while "Israel must cease its use of military force against Palestinian civilians, including attacks involving American-supplied F-16s and Apache helicopters. Moreover, Israel must stop land seizures; destruction of homes, infrastructure, orchards and farms; arbitrary arrests and imprisonment; torture; cats and dogs living together; assassinations; expulsions; curfews; travel restrictions; abuse at checkpoints; raids; collective punishment; and other violations of human rights."

Didn't they already make a movie about this? Of course, all the people in it are ugly and old or something, so we need to make it again with Tom Hanks, Ashton Kutcher, and Xzibit playing the lead roles. At least this time everybody will look jewish.

There was a documentary in 2000 called One Day in September, but I think it only dealt with the standoff at the Athletes Village.

I think its gonna be another "Amistad" where Spielberg follows up every special effects bonanza film with a 'dark', 'real' movie. Ho hum. But the SUBJECT MATTER is what is so fascinating because I do find it very very interesting. Of course he will pander as usual to the Academy but considering the crap thats won Best Picture recently ('A beautiful mind' - BARF) that wont be such a bad thing.

And, while excellent in its own right, I don't particularly see an issue with Spielberg tackling this topic. There's probably only a dozen or so people who even remember Sword of Gideon -- and it wasn't like it was definitive/flawless, or that the subject can only handle one particular viewpoint.

Interesting. Says what it needs to without saying too much.

FrontPageMag.com, also known as Front Page Magazine, is a neoconservative online journal edited by David Horowitz and published by the Center for the Study of Popular Culture, a non-profit organization established by Horowitz. Dedicated to conservative advocacy, FrontPageMag.com regularly criticizes the Democratic party, liberal press, environmental movement, affirmative action, feminism, human rights organizations, labor unions, and pacifist groups. It is particularly critical of commentators and politicians who attack the War on Terror.
After conservative author Ann Coulter's column was dropped from National Review Online because of a personal and editing dispute regarding a column she wrote on the September 11, 2001 attacks, FrontPageMag agreed to sponsor her regular column.
The magazine and Horowitz's Center for the Study of Popular Culture receive financial backing from conservative publisher Richard Mellon Scaife.

I always enjoy Spielberg's movies (except The Terminal), but I'm a little worried about this one. The last thing we need right now is a message of "Well, is it moral to fight against people who are determined to kill you or should we be pacifist and hope for the best??" which is the kind of self-doubting moral wishy-washiness that has been the downfall of civilizations in the past. In any conflict between peoples, the most determined tends to win, regardless of military strength. I'm just afraid this will encourage people to feel that we have no right to defend ourselves.
I'm familiar with Tony Kushner's work, decent playwright, but my god his politics are scary. Downright Stalinist.
I'm willing to give Spielberg the benefit of the doubt because of his humanitarianism and no one that rich and successful can really hate our society that much, but his friendly remarks about meeting with Castro really turned my stomach (my family barely made it out of that prison alive).

Ah, the '72 olympics. Besides the kidnapping of the Jewish athletes, that was also the olympics where the US basketball team won the gold against the Russians, and the officials put time back on the clock something like three times berfore the Russians finally won (and then they called the game over). The US team never accepted their silver medals which remain in a vault somewhere in Germany.
Each player of the US team has put in their will that, after their death, nobody from their family may claim the medals.

It is a disgrace that they did that. Cowardly and embarrassing. And at a time when it was so important to have moral authority. You know where that situation just happened....USC vs Notre Dame...hmm.
Oh well, not that big of a deal.
