Universal Pictures is planning a December 23 launch for Steven Spielberg's film about the 1972 Munich Olympics says Reuters.

The untitled project, a co-production between Universal and DreamWorks, had been set to go before the cameras last year. Preproduction had begun in Europe and casting was under way when Spielberg decided to have "Angels in America" playwright Tony Kushner do a rewrite on the project.

With the project postponed, Spielberg moved quickly to begin filming his adaptation of H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds." Spielberg now plans to begin filming the Munich project in the summer.

Does this mean the terrorists will no longer be Palestines, but instead be Gay Mormons?

I wonder if Spielberg will be targeted by some radical group for doing this movie.

He’s weird like that. Long periods of nothing, then bang! A ton of movies.

Perhaps if they threw in Bea Arthur as "Golda Meir" you'd be more enticed to watch?

This doesn't mean he did all the work on both movies all over the course of one year; it just means two movies are scheduled for release in the same calendar year. Besides, this is hardly new for Spielberg.

Well, I don't know if those last two count. Those are more like home movies he made when he was 16 years old.

Seems like he wants to make his movies in pairs; one for summer blockbuster audiences, and one for Oscar consideration.

I still wonder how in the world he will get this thing done in less than a year.

He seems to be so organized I'm sure he can have it shot in three months. Edit it another month and a half or so and the release.

Yeah, "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan" were awful.

I personally didn't care much for Schindler's List it was praised so much because of its content. And Saving Private Ryan was decent but there are better war movies. In my opinion Jaws is Spielberg's greatest film and he hasn't made a film of its equal yet.

Two great movies, I tend to love his movies.

Spielberg, IMO, has been hitting nothing short of home runs after Saving Private Ryan.

Well, I had heard he was a fast worker on Catch Me If You Can and with putting War of the Worlds together. But this seems almost crazy! Aren't they still shooting War od the Worlds. Oh well. I have faith. But it looks like he's working as fast as Clint Eastwood supposedly does.

That's your opinion, but you are in the minority. And there have been a lot of movies about the Holocaust that have not been praised the way "Schindler's List" has been, so obviously it takes more than just content.
