Quinn-Toye was one of four to make the short list for the male lead.
So Pidge is the main character this time around?

I had an amazing metal Voltron set when I was a kid in the '80s, but couldn't tell you a single thing about the universe or characters involved.

That would be perfect casting, so you know it'll never happen.

Will reportedly be released exclusively to Prime Video. No theatrical release. That sucks to hear.

I knew it was an MGM Amazon production, but assumed a theatrical release was still a given. I wonder what, if anything, this says of the expected quality of the finished product.

Even I was considering making the trek to see this in a theater.

I'm guessing this is a one and done scenario.? No sequels or even a trilogy.

re: Voltron (2027, D: Thurber)

I heard that Amazon MGM was highly touting their theatrical content over the next year at CinemaCon recently and this was not included in their presentation. We can only speculate at this point, but I highly doubt they initially greenlit a Voltron live action movie to go to their streaming service. So maybe it didn’t turn out as good as they hoped.

They must have fucked it up and made it a vehicle Voltron movie.

Voltron? I think I'll stick with the original.

Thurber? I think I'll stick with the original.

I don't know who this guy is, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say he is not to be believed.

Voltron is apparently going to Prime Video and skipping theaters. What a foolish decision by Amazon. After the massive successful run of Project Hail Mary, they don’t think a big budget Voltron can make money at the box office?

Same dumb move with the Jack Ryan movie. So only Masters of the Universe warrants a theatrical run?

That feels like apples and oranges. Project Hail Mary is a 4 quadrant crowd pleaser based on a popular novel starring one of the biggest A-list stars in Hollywood.

Voltron is based on a nerdy cartoon/toy best remembered by dudes in their 40's and 50's and whose biggest star (in a supporting role no less) is not one of the biggest A-list stars in Hollywood.

Masters of the Universe doesn't seem to be tracking well, and I'd argue Voltron has less brand awareness than it. I think movies should play in theaters, but I get Amazon's thinking in this case.

They had a few test screenings of Voltron last year (I got the invites, didn't go). This is most likely based on the feedback they got from those.
