Sort of worried over the phrase "action figures and playsets that revolve around an edgier, modernized robot." How do you modernize robot lions? Considering lions are still around, how to you upgrade them? I do see how they could put more joints in Voltron compared to the old one.

Doesn't sound so much scrapped as postponed to see how well a TV show revival does first. From a business standpoint, I can understand that logic. However, it's not quite necessary. The other Transformer shows were practically dead by the movie came along and it did exceptionally well.
Unless this new show is of the quality of the Masters of the Univers remake series, it wont do well and would reflect poorly on the viability of the property. |

However, Transformers has been a contant toyline for years before the movie came out. Can't say much about the shows ratings but the toys were hits. So beyond the people that saw G1 back in the 80's, modern kids were familiar with optimus Prime, Megatron, & Starscream before the movie. Transformers was very much alive.
Voltron on the other hand, has more or less been out of the general publics eye for years. There was a toyline in the early 90's but that has been well over a decade. The new Voltron show will help get the public aware of Voltron again. |

Studios are going overboard pandering to people of my age group for nostalgia's sake. I'm ready for them to get over the 80s.

Another issue I have with the concept art is that it confirms the movie will take place on Earth. :down: I'd hoped they'd abandoned that silly idea years ago. :(

Have always been a Voltron fan and have been waiting for a movie to come out for a while. I actually like this concept art a bit even though it does evoke Transformers. I will crap upon Transformer for the bad acting and plot, but I do like te character designs. Still gonn wait for further confirmation that the movie is a go before getting my hopes too high up.

Relativity Media interested in bringing 'Voltron' to the big screen Back when Michael Bay's 'Transformers' film series was gaining popularity, the notion of several other 80's cartoons becoming big-budget live-action movies began to circulate. Among them was 'Voltron: Defender of the Universe,' a show about a group of pilots who band their robotic lions together to form an even larger robot, Voltron in order to fight the forces of evil. Murmurs about a live-action film based on the show have been occuring for years, but due to legal complications, the project has never properly materialized. Vulture reports that now that the legal issues have resolved, a bidding war to bring 'Voltron' to the big screen has erupted. One of the interested companies is Relativity Media, who have had a hand in such past films as 'Zombieland' and 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,' as well as upcoming films, 'Battle: Los Angeles,' 'Super 8' and 'Cowboys & Aliens.' Robert Koplar, the Vice President of World Events Productions, who are behind the original show, wouldn't say which film company his company is going to align themselves with, but he did say that a live-action 'Voltron' should be making its way to theatres no later than 2014. |

I'm not thrilled about the obviously Transformers inspired design, but despite that, it still looks pretty good. Atleast he has a face, unlike most of the decepticons in the other movie. I just wish they would have atleast used the original color scheme for the main lion.
Also, I would have preferred it in space. I hate when they have Japanese franchises, and they try to Americanize them. I don't have a problem with Akira being made in America with a live action budget, but can't the story still take place in Japan? |

Yeah, they have to get the design of the robot right (not like the Hollywood Power Rangers film) and nail that sequence (though I still think that Netflix sequence should've had the keys)
