Batmobile looks and sounds good! heh

Jackskeleton 06-17-05 02:45 AM

Chris Nolan made some comments about it in an interview on the treatment

http://kcrw.org/show/tt

pretty good to listen to.

anyways, back to the point, i think it'd be really cool to hear a reaction or comment from burton; or also, maybe hear what chris nolan thought of the original.

Honestly, I don't give a rat's crack what Tim Burton thinks about it. Tim Burton never read a Batman comic book before doing the movie. If he wants to comment on the movie as a movie, that's one thing, but he can't really say much about it being a comic book movie, because I don't think he even tried to make one back in 89.

just got back. hardly ever clap for movies let alone cheer. i did both for this.
wow! and i figured i knew the gist of the story so i didn't bother skipping any reviews or articles and there were still surprises.
Tumbler - i need to get me one of those! (or a damn good sound system for when the dvd is played back.)

The Joker => Quentin Tarantino, his jawline alone should seal the deal. :D

Excellent, best batman movie ever. I liked it better then x2, x-men, superman and superman 2, not sure about spiderman and spiderman 2. need repeat viewing to judge. What I liked is a believeable character and story and good special effects.I hate camp. the first batman and batman returns were beautifully shot films with stylish sets and cool costume, batmobile and batwing. but the movies were about the villians and way too campy. they did not take batman seriously. michael keaton's bruce wayne was bad. batman forever was not alwful like batman and robin but became more campy, more about the villians and less real and less cool. val kilmer though was a very good bruce wayne and batman.

superman and superman 2, imho are weaken by the campyness of luther and clark kent. great special effects for its day and good superman but the campness hurts the movie.
Batman Begins is the mature/adult/reality based batman. The action scenes had some weakness but overall fantastic. batman was played perfectly by bale. holmes was okay and caine and freeman added humor appropriately. batman back story was good and the how he got his toys was appropriate.
Great movie. loved the batmobile chase.

Saw this last night. Great movie, better than I'd expected it to be. Good performances all the way around.

I kept trying to play Cillian Murphy. It wasn't until I got home and checked the Internet that I realized he was the dude from 28 Days Later.

Quibble: I didn't like Bale's "Batman" voice too much.

Did you catch the cameo of...

Spoiler:
Batgirl?

;)

Yes but,
Spoiler:
she was in a high chair, hardly think that could count. Unless it is already a foreshadowing of how she will end up in life. ;)

I don't think I have mentioned this before, but watching this movie almost felt like reading a Batman graphic novel. I used to read many of them in my day, and each one seemed to recap the murder of Wayne's parents as well as reveal an element about his past that you wouldn't have guessed before. Don't know if storywise Nolan and Goyer looked to the style of those books, but it certainly seems that way.

I definitely liked it - except for one big thing and one small thing:

Big thing: As much as I love Nolan as a director, he just can't direct action. The camera was zoomed in really close to all the "action" and there were a bunch of quick cuts just to get a sense of motion, but no real action. This pretty much took away from all the action scenes and made them look like a messy blur. I've seen low budget tv shows with better filmed action sequences. Even Borne Supremacy, which had the bouncy-hand-held-cam that people hated, at least had long unbroken takes of the action.

Small thing: [paraphrasing] "I need to get through, I'm a District Attorney!!

Spoiler:
When Batman visits Gordon at his apartment, his wife can be seen in the background feeding a baby. Could it be...Barbara?

Yes it is. Her name is in the credits.

 I didn't notice that. Must have been buried between "Asian Man #5" and "Thug #16".

Damn, then it will be a while until we actually see her ;)

Really? That's awesome! I always hated the killing of villians in the previous Batmovies.

I took the family to see it last night. While I thought it was really well done, the kids (9 & 10) didn't like it. They said it was boring. I tried to explain the whole "character development" idea but they weren't buying it. They have never seen the old Batman movies either, so they had nothing to compare it to. My wife thought it was slow and too long. I felt a big-time Blade Runner vibe to the movie. I liked the action scenes however blurry or unfocused, they conveyed a sense of brutality rather than the usual stylish choreography in most of todays movies. I thought Katie Holmes was rather blah. The rest of the cast was superb.

The Antipodean 06-17-05 12:38 PM

I liked it quite a lot (longer review here), but in my mind it's definitely not aimed for kids nor will it particularly entertain most of them. It's an adult's action movie, and kids under 10 in particular will be bored to tears by most of it. (Or maybe I'm just thinking of the annoying whelp at my screening last night who kept saying "where's Batman?" "Where's Batman?" for the first hour. Argh)

Anyone see this on the Imax? how did it look? and when you see it on the imax do they show movie trailers or just previews for upcoming imax movies?

Im wondering the same thing...im going to IMAX tomorrow night.

Birrman54 06-17-05 02:18 PM

I saw it at an IMAX, looked pretty good. I don't seem to recall any non-IMAX films being previewed (although I could be wrong).

I know that it probably depends on location, but are there longer lines at IMAX? Should I get there earlier than a normal theater?

Im going to the IMAX in Dallas. Thanks!

fumanstan 06-17-05 02:44 PM

I saw it on IMAX as well. For some reason I don't remember much about any previews. I think there may have only been one preview beforehand for another IMAX film. Looked great, although I went with a large group of coworkers and ended up in the 2nd row, which isn't very fun on such a large screen. A bit dissapointed in the sound... when i saw Matrix Revo on IMAX the sound was really pumped up. Not so much here.

That's something they can cover in the sequel.

I was at the one at the palisades mall in NY. There was a line to get in, we showed up at around 9:10 (for a 9:45 showing). We also bought our tickets in advance (they sold out). I'd suggest getting there early, especially since this will be its first weekend.
