I'm not going to say much of it has already been said, but goddamn. This film kicked my ass.

Easily one of the better films released this year. Great soundtrack, great direction, great script, and a great cast...

Cause...I don't think this film is going to fail. At worst it'll still clear 150 million I'd say.

Edit: I'm guessing your referring to the report on showbizdata saying the midnight showings weren't too highly attended. I woudln't fret too much over that one though...it's still got a lot of room to excel

My Midnight show was packed. I still think this movie will stand up for for years to come. People, the dirty masses, may or may not get it today. But on secdon viewing they'll learn to appreciate it.

And let's face it. This movie has a LOT of shitty baggage it must dump thanks to JOEL SHUMACHER and the other movies. The possible exception being Batman '89. The "dirty masses" are gunshy where Batman movies are concerned.

I agree on the soundtrack. The music fits right in with my "This was a Mature Batfilm" feeling.

Best comic book movie ever made IMO. I've had the same favorite comic book film since I was a little kid. Superman 2, I'm not saying that was the best, but it has been my favorite since I was a kid, & I finally have a new favorite.

This is the best Batman has been on screen ever, & you can't be much more of a Batman fan or comic book fan than me.

Not a single complaint about the film, which for me is rare.

Saw it this afternoon and loved it. one question

Spoiler:
with the microwave evaporator thing, how come it's not evaporating the water in everybodys bodies?

Get Me Coffee 06-15-05 09:35 PM

Just show tonight....

I have to say it was perfect! I liked the pace of the film, the music and acting. My only beef would be to pan out more during the fight scenes. I hate close up fight scenes, which happened 100% of the time in this movie. I guess we'll see improved fighting in the sequel.

Because it's a comic book movie! ;)

j123vt_99 06-15-05 10:08 PM

I have to say it was just ok.. I wasn't overly thrilled by it. The plot was kinda predictable... the gadgets were ok... the "love story" was blah... just didn't do much for me

i am not that familar with the actual comic although I have seen the previous movies and the original tv show

mikehunt 06-15-05 10:12 PM

saw it this afternoon. thought it was good. liam was very qui gon like
nit picks
Spoiler:
that microwave weapon would have vaporized all the people, especially if it was strong enough to get through the water pipes
I doubt the roofs of some of those buildings would have supported the bat mobile

good mix of action and plot

calhoun07 06-15-05 10:29 PM

I guess I am in a minority who didn't think the '89 Batman was the best thing ever filmed. While that movie was a definate step up from the campy TV series, it was a far, far cry from what I was reading in the comic books, and the sound track sucked. The movie holds up horribly after all these years, and they kill the freaking Joker. The next movie wasn't all that great either, and I never saw the other two because I knew they were not as good as the first two, so why bother.

Batman Begins is a great movie, even if you have to suspend logic in a few places, but what the hell...where the movie is lacking is hardly a concern because where it makes it up, it makes up big time. This should be considered the quintissental Batman by which all other Batman movies are compared, not Tim Burton's crap fest.

Jadow 06-15-05 11:03 PM

Saw a 6:30pm showing, the theater was mostly empty, the theater was about as empty as when I went to the Matrix Revolutions like a week before they pulled it out of theaters.

That being said, I LOVED IT! Definitely the best Batman movie. I didn't think I'd like the Morgan Freeman character going in, but he was fine. The villians and their motiviations could have been a little more fleshed out, but what the hey, it was still a great movie.

I rank comic book movies I've seen like this:
Superman
Superman II
Batman Begins
Spiderman 2
Sin City
Spiderman 1
X-Men 2
X-Men
Batman 89
all else is crap

Also 2005 is a great year for movies for me, I've only gone to 3 this year, but they've been:
Sin City
Star Wars
Batman Begins

I know I'll probably screw that streak of great movies up and go to War of the Worlds of Scientolgy I should just quit when I'm ahead and call it a year.

Puzznic 06-15-05 11:25 PM

I don't know if my area is a good indication (south Florida), but my theater had a midnight showing in 2 theaters and they were both completely sold out.

RyoHazuki 06-15-05 11:58 PM

Awesome movie.

I totally agree and it was handled well.

Spoiler:
I really liked how Batman trusted Gordon enough to let him use the Batmobile

let me me ad a nitpick, mind you I loved this movie and it was still...
Spoiler:
good to see Watanabe in it. However, since he was nothing more than a Decoy perhaps they could've gone with a lesser actor? He was kinda wasted in the role. Once it was revealed that Neeson was the real deal it kinda diminished Watanabe's role for me. Granted, having Watanabe billed as Rhas was good for keeping the Plot twist low key press wise.

Kudama 06-16-05 12:06 AM

Just got back.
Spoiler:
The fact that Ducard was Al Ghul was neat. The fact that he allegedly died (despite the fact of no corpse: ala Doc Ock) kinda threw me.
One of the best lines (for me) was in the part where Wayne had to decapitate that farmer and Neesom said something like, "Ras Al Ghul has been protecting humanity from the darkest part of its heart for thousands of years." A great allusion to the Lazarus Pits.
I really didn't mind the confusing fight scenes (you attend school for animation and you have pretty quick eye for frames) and I loved the parts that were missing from the burton films: The disappearing, crouching, cruelty, etc.
Fucking incredible ending!!!
Scarecrow was THE FUCKIN' BOMB!!! Cillian Murphey was so cool it hurt and the wailing in the taser scene: PRICELESS.

Burton has been OWNED!!!!!

My wife and I agree 100%. I loved Sin City but this movie was absolutely the best movie of the year so far and easily the best comic movie I have ever seen. I was blown away and did not expect it to be this good.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE! maybe you wont like it as much as I did but you will have a great time at the movies.

I would almost agree. I'd add the additional "qualm" that they never showed how the world's greatest detective actually learned to be a detective (rather than just a fighter), but otherwise... it was absolutely perfect.

Kudama 06-16-05 12:36 AM

I love how they kept the names from Year One, if not the exact characters, like Flass and Loeb.

Spoiler:
the boot heel squeaker call almost had me weeping in joy.

Why did this take so long to be done??? What the Hell?

Yeah. It was almost like Ducard taught him no stalking skills. But he still kinda had them through Fox (Tech-wise) in this one.
Spoiler:
Howdja like the scene where the kid said, "My friends will never believe this.". and he gave this random kid one of his gadgets? What the Hell gadget was that, anyway? (Ala Hellboy, IMO)
If I was Batman, I woulda' tossed the kid a batarang. Catch it: Good. Don't: Donation to the local community hospital.

I have to edit this: I think I agreed with you in that this was the first mature Batman (Live Action) movie ever.

This was posted in all Owen Wilson's voice. It is not, however, sarcastic.

Gutz 06-16-05 02:33 AM

I just heard from one dude that the movie was stupid, horrible kung fu movie and he slept half through it.

Well we all have different tastes. I'm watching the film on Friday.

Kal-El 06-16-05 03:48 AM

Just got back and I have to say, GREAT movie. Heck, wasn't even bothered by Katie Holmes but then again I'm an unashamed Creeker so that may have factored into it. I thought I was going to be annoyed by the voice change but I actually liked it. Really separated Bruce from Bats. My only nitpick would be the fight scenes. Really not a fan of tightly shot fights but it's such a minor quibble in an otherwise awesome theater-going experience. Great set-up at the end too.

Jackskeleton 06-16-05 03:57 AM

Kung Fu movie? You know what I loved most about this movie. It was how they took the Kung fu/wire fu out of it. Even Ghul said it to Bruce. This isn't a dance. The head bunts him to knock him out of his martial arts. It's a street fight to outsmart the enemy and it worked out perfectly to take us back to what fights should be. Messy and totally chaotic on all fronts.

Loved the movie. I would have enjoyed a little comment by Ghul to Bruce when he realizes that Ducard was just a mask/decoy something along the lines of "Good work Detective". I would have marked out. But for the most part. Looooooved this film.
