The Dark knight returns. :-D
|
Saw it today. Christian Bale fucking rocks. I thought he did a great job. Loved Liam. Hated Katie. Thought it was fantastic overall. The scarecrow bits were very well done.
|
I saw it again on Imax, and the only downside was that the projected image was so large that Bale's bb-sized mole/growth/whatever just in between his right eye and the bridge of his nose was a little distracting. Otherwise, yet another great viewing experience. Katie Holmes needs to wear more silk blouses.
The print was really pristine and clear, and it helped in the fight sequences too, which I think are fine, as they played out, plus, many of them are in close quarters, so wide shots would have to be artificially manufactured otherwise. I think people were used to such wide angles with the fights in the bell tower (and alleyway) in Batman (1989). On my way out of the Imax auditorium, a father, with his entire family (the wife, 2 teenage sons, and a daughter), was pretty positive and giddy with his comments "That was a really excellent movie!" and his family agreed. In the 2 showings I've attended, the crowd leaves in a happy mood, mainly because the film never sags, and it is so good in sucking the viewer into this world of Batman that shows us a glimpse of how Bruce came to be Batman without ever wearing out its welcome. And yes, the first inmate they showed as Batman was going though Arkham Asylum did look a bit like Oswalt Cobblepot (The Penguin). I thought it was a bit interesting that Bale was probably mostly known for either being the kid in "Empire of the Sun" or as Patrick Bateman in "American Psycho" as a badguy (plus a turn in Shaft), and Gary Oldman has had so many turns as a bad guy, a manian, just flat out evil, but both guys are cast in these heroic parts, and none of their baggage means much because of how their characters were written (in terms of how the audience views them in the framework of the film). Casting against type worked for this film because, well, the principals actors are very good at their craft. |
So does the imax show regular movie trailers or the imax ones? i may be crazy but i like the previews before movies, even though i see them all online before.
|
I went into this viewing wondering if this could top the 1st Batman. Holy crap did it ever. Simply brilliant. I don't know how else to explain it. This is how all of the previous Bat flicks should've been.
The casting all around (besides Holmes) seem to each fit the parts. Oldman as Gordon was by far, the best casting choice. Bale was fantastic. |

And at Navy Pier Chicago at least, assigned seating. No need to get their early and wait in line. |
I loved the movie and thought Scarecrow was a terrific choice as a villain with the themes Nolan was covering. The action scenes in the middle were great, but it felt like the last fight felt like it was filmed in the same way except it was more of a duel out in the open instead of "Batman going Alien on the baddies" and ended up feeling cramped to me.
Casting choice was great and everyone played their part well. I have some complaints about Katie Holmes, but I think it's because I kept thinking about how her character was wasting space where Talia or Harvey Dent would have been a whole lot more interesting. Two minor things that bothered me while I was watching the movie: Spoiler:

What's so hard to believe?
The car is a prototype model. Meaning it's kept so under wraps that I doubt even the companies who made parts for it would recognize it all built together. As for blowing up cars and shit... well I guess you can say that they were all corrupt minus gordon, so why not take out part of the problem as for burning down the place. he didn't kill them so much as cause a distraction. The rationality is that the farmer wasn't armed or atleast defending himself. |
just came back from watching the movie and I loved it---I am very pleased--I cannot wait for DVD--I can't wait for the sequel-Is this too much to ask for? lol lol

SUPER movie. I loved it.

I saw this tonight and would give it 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. It was GREAT! If this is what we can expect from DC Comic's films, i'd say Marvel had better step up their game. BIG TIME.

for those who read the comics and saw the movie:
Spoiler:
my only other point of reference is the animated series and i don't think that was ever a storyline. |
- Really hope this film has a big weekend. I want those sequels!
- Bruce/Batman obviously wasn't trying to cause property damage while trying to escape the temple and the cops. He was just trying to get the Hell out of there as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, people got in his way. I suspect once he matures as a crime fighter he'll be kicking himself over those dabacles as well. - While I now like BB much better than Burtons version, I'm not nearly as critical of his Batman as most people seem to be. Keep in mind that aside from Superman there really hadn't ever been a serious comic book movie. Back in '89 most people thought of the character as a campy tv character. While not perfect, his films really pioneered the 'serious' superhero films we've all enjoyed since. - Went to a 4PM matinee showing on Saturday and the theater was about 2/3rds full. Audience clapped at the end, and there was already a line forming outside the screening I left. Hopefully thats a good sign. - Regarding Barbera Gordon. How do we know that was her in the highchair? Maybe he's got a second older daughter upstairs sulking in her room or something. :) |
I am not sure if Ducard ever appeared in the comics, but I don't think he has. (But I could be off base with my recollection)

Just got back from seeing it, and it was fricken awesome. The movie in my mind is pretty much perfect. The only gripe I had was a lot of the fighting sequences were shot so close it was hard to get a handle on what was happening.
one of my favorite parts: Spoiler:

Here's a little something I didn't get.

is it me or is the trend in movies to film fight sequences up close and personal? I can't stand that!
Glad to see that someone finally took the Batman legacy seriously. |
One word can describe what I thought of this movie ... Incredible!!
Watch this movie!!! |
