I'm okay with this as I get my second COVID vaccine this Friday and it means a good chance of me still being able to see GvK on a large screen before they give it to MK. Decided to wait two weeks for 100% effectiveness as opposed to the 80% from the first one (I got Pfizer).

The director has apparently confirmed the techno Mortal Kombat theme will be in this movie.

I was trying to figure out the point of a one-week delay ... that explains it.

That new theme sounds like a typical techno dance track but its okay. I'll be there opening weekend.

No, but I did see a few minutes of this the other day. Used to watch it a lot when it came out:

I think that's on the MK Annihilation blu-ray. Anyway I watched the first movie over the weekend and I don't think I've watched it since seeing it in theaters since 1995. It's kind of sad that it was considered the best video game movie made at that point. It was neutered by the PG-13 rating, the fight coreography was horrible, and the CGI was terrible. I hope this reboot turns out to be good.

Didn't know Hiroyuke Sanada is in the film. Enjoyed his work in films like Twilight Samurai, Ringu, Last Samurai.

Something tells me that entire sequence will be the highlight of the film and probably the only portion worth watching.

I'm also guessing the soundtrack for this reboot is nowhere on the level as the original's and probably not even present in the film.

A buddy saw it already via a screener and said it was ultra violent but mediocre film overall.

The soundtrack for the first and second movie, as well as the More Kombat disc influenced my listening tastes more directly than anything else I can think of. It sent me down a path of metal, industrial, and electronic music that are still my three main preferences today.

Man, I remember the mid90s industrial kick, those were some good times haha. Even David Lynch went down that rabbit hole.

David Lynch gave us Rammstein stateside, featuring their music in Lost Highway.

Re: Mortal Kombat (2021, D: McQuoid, P: James Wan)

Wow...AV Club gave it a D, calling it boring (their crack about calling it Waiting For Goro was funny though). It sounds like most of the "cool" stuff has already been seen on the web in the form of trailers/promo spots. I will still watch it, but it sounds like it will be a background watch where I will be futzing w/my ipad while watching.

I think I have mentioned this before but although I never played the game I did go to the Midnight showing when the first film was released, I went with my brother and it was a fun experience. I also recently saw the sequel several months ago so I am primed to enjoy the film, but oof, that review.

Yeah... I'd agree with that statement.

They set the bar pretty high with that opening sequence.
Spoiler:
I would've preferred 90mins of Hanzo/Bi-Han than what we actually got.

So many wasted opportunities in this film and with the massive character roster that MK is known for, why the hell would you bother creating a completely new character? Nothing against Lewis Tan, but he could've easily been one of the other well-established characters.

Bummer. I was really hoping this would be good. I’ll still watch it, but definitely sounds disappointing.

Re: Mortal Kombat (2021, D: McQuoid, P: James Wan)

Just finished watching this and it's up there for one of the worst films of 2021. Lewis Tan is no amateur but he's awful. Just about everyone is stilted in some way -- it's fucking amateur hour. Goro looked really cool and some of the fatalities were done well, though. I can see why the opening was released early, it's the best part of the film -- it goes downhill right after.

Definitely glad I'm not seeing this in theaters. HBO MAX for the clutch hit!
