It looks like his head is shaved under his hat, and the other picture has him posed with a chick wearing a head scarf which appears to be covering a bald head.

My guess is his weight-loss/hairloss was for a role. His film "Richard Says Goodbye (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6865690/reference) is in post-production and it's about his character having a terminal illness. Either that or he has cancer in real life.
