Brian Dennehy clearly stated that, but it was only wishful thinking. At that point they were all dead. no deal could get then out because how could Gabriel Byrne trust that any of them wouldn't spill their guts; He couldn't, they were all dead from the moment they found out it was crooked cops attacking them.
That's a big assumption you make there.
Spoiler:
If they were going to kill Dennehy, they would've done it right then and there, instead Byrne's character tells him to get in the car because he doesn't need to see what they're gonna do THEN he's going to allow Dennehy to kill Bishop.

I think thenew circumstancs were worse than the original, because the people on the inside know the party "assualting" them was coming until they were all dead, in the original the people in the precinct keep hoping they were gonna go away after each assualt.

In the original, it was pretty clear everyone faced death as the gang members swore a blood oath to do just that, plus they laid out a message on the doorstep of the precinct which one of the black criminals inside explained that it meant they were all doomed.

This thread sucks with all the bickering, but it's the Assault on P13 thread, so here goes... just saw it and thought it was average. Ethan did a great job given the material and the rest of the cast was blah. I still don't like shaky-camera that is so shaky you can't see the action. It was predictable (never saw the original and didn't know anything about it), but held my interest.

I thought it was pretty funny that Ethan was addicted to Breath Mints.

I thought this was a good, solid action movie that didnt skimp on the violence and actually showed some balls in regards to some scenes where I thought they were going to go the usual ***** route. On the negative side, there are some obvious turns and some HUGE logic holes in the plot, especially a change in scenery that comes out of nowhere but you'll still have a good time at the movies. I prefer the original more for its bleak outlook but can easily see recommending this for action buffs. Precinct 13 fans should check the french remake released to video called Wasp's Nest here in the US, that is one kick ass movie.

One funny note, watch the trailer for this movie, in the mexican standoff Drea Dmatteo is holding a big knife instead of the gun she uses in the actual movie. Weird.

I dug this flick. There was nothing spectacular but the flow and cinematography were great. Also, I'm a big Ethan Hawke fan and I loved his performance here (througout and not just the excellent beginning).

I'd give it ***1/2 out of **** While agree a lot of the characters were one dimensional, the film still flowed very nicely and felt a lot different from the everyday run-of-the-mill "action cliche filled" films out there.

Are you getting points for every time you call Carpenter's Assault... original? It was a remake/rip-off of Rio Bravo. Ask Carpenter himself.
Night of the Living Dead strongly influenced Carpenter too. (And I would hazard to guess it was a stronger influence than Rio Bravo, which is only superficially similar to the original Assault film.)
