Do you miss John Candy?

Any fans or haters?

Watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles last night.

Too bad his last movie had to be Wagon's East.

Geofferson 11-20-04 02:37 PM

Yes. I liked several of his movies. Plains, Trains and Automobiles, Splash, The Great Outdoors and Brewster's Millions are the ones I like most.

nightmaster 11-20-04 02:51 PM

Yeah, but not nearly as much as I miss John Belushi and all he was capable of.

Ky-Fi 11-20-04 03:22 PM

I did love Planes, Trains And Autos, but I thought he rarely hit his stride in the movies he did----whereas some of his SCTV stuff is sheer comic brilliance, IMO.

Fok 11-20-04 03:32 PM

:(

Ranger 11-20-04 03:49 PM

We all miss John Candy. Just saw Spaceballs on tv.

tsohg 11-20-04 04:06 PM

WOW I was just thinking of him. I was watching Delerious the other day. It really sucks he's gone.

B.A. 11-20-04 04:27 PM

I hate it when my wife watches Uncle Buck - it makes me depressed.

Entirely agree, though I would put Uncle Buck on an even note, if not a notch higher, than Planes, Tranes and Automobiles.

But, esp. now that I have the SCTV collections, all movie moments pale to any single William B. or Johnny La Rue moment. Those were sublime....

"Hi, I'm Harry...the Guy with the Snake on his Face."

I miss John Candy.

Just Lurking 11-20-04 07:25 PM

I do too.

I looked up John Candy on imdb.com. It's been 10 years since he passed away.

On a side note, he is listed has a voice on a new show - The Magic 7 . Or is imdb.com screwed up.

I miss him as much as I miss Phil Hartman. Actually, more.

Last week I picked up Brewster's Millions in Wal*Mart's bargain bin.

What a shame both of the stars are essentially gone.

mike45 11-20-04 10:51 PM

Great small role in JFK.

He had alot of potential as a dramatic actor. It's too bad he never had the chance to be more dramatic films.

matome 11-20-04 10:54 PM

I miss him. :(

B.A. 11-20-04 11:04 PM

Damn you, TomOpus!!!

:(

I have a friend who knew him... Candy was convinced he was going to die young because of family history... He actually lived longer than he expected to!

Two of my favorite Candy performances that haven't been mentioned so far: "Ox" in Stripes ("A lean, mean, fighting machine") and "Freddie Bauer" in Splash ("Penthouse printed my letter...")

Nesbit 11-21-04 12:11 PM

Not to be the cold hearted bastard but to be honest no. There are very few artist who I miss. I really doubt John Candy would have done much more than say Dan Ackroyd (SP) is doing now. I did enjoy him in almost everything he did though.

necros 11-21-04 12:20 PM

For me, PT&A will always be his bestest movie. I haven't seen all of his stuff but that's easily my favorite.

One small role that he had that I always loved too was Vacation... "I'm tellin'!"

bhk 11-21-04 01:01 PM

Seeing him playing Orson Welles and Pavarotti on SCTV really brings back what a great comedian he was.

NaturalMystic79 11-21-04 01:12 PM

Uncle Buck rules!

I feel the same way. I love a lot of his stuff, but agree, I think he would be in the same boat as Akroyd, Chevy Chase and others from that long gone comedy era.

SFranke 11-21-04 01:29 PM

Yeah, I miss Aykroyd and Chase, too.

Just Lurking 11-21-04 02:09 PM

SpaceBalls is on WGN now.

Yeah, but do they do anything worthwhile these days? Not that they're dead, but there careers might as well be.
