He was one of the greats. :(

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
I didn't want to see him dead, but I don't miss him.

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
His work on SCTV alone = I miss him.

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
No offense to man meant at all, but I can think of at least 50 other dead celebrities I "miss" more.

I miss him more than I miss the movies he chose to star in.
SCTV was where you can see his best stuff. |

Anyway, damn, 17 years ago. I recently bought one of my all-time favorite John Candy movies, Uncle Buck, on blu-ray and watched it right away. That last shot of him always gets me. |
Re: Do you miss John Candy?
SCTV is good but I don't get why some people are bashing his movie roles. Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors, Spaceballs, and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles are all great if you ask me. Also even though he wasn't in a starring role he had good minor parts in Vacation and Home Alone.

Blues Brothers was on TV yesterday, I had forgotten about his supporting role in that one

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
Dude was genuinely funny and from what I've read and heard, was a very kind individual. That's more than enough reason to miss him.

Chanice: "I would just like to hear the pitter-patter of tiny feet before I die. Buck: "I'll get you a mouse and a piece of sheet metal!" I remember quietly giggling to myself for the next five minutes in the theater after he said that. I was almost in tears. |

Hell, I love Summer Rental too. For some reason I crack up when I see John Candy on the beach in the middle of summer wearing a Chicago Blackhawks jersey

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
Yes, he was great. I'd like to think he would have been one of the rare few comic actors of that era to keep on doing great things. :(

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
Yeah I still miss John Candy.

He died 20 years ago today.

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
He was an irresposible man who left 2 children behind because of his bad habits. He chose food over his kids. :sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
He was good also in "Only the Lonely"...

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
Even after all these years John Candy's death still stings more than almost any celebrity death since. :(

Re: Do you miss John Candy?
There was never a star quite like John Candy. Even if almost every role he played was a slight variation of himself, that was okay because he was such a roly-poly joy to watch on screen. His trademark laugh had this sweet non-serious self depreciation and was never a weapon against anyone. His delivery was pitch perfect: just watch the scene in The Blues Brothers with "Orange whip? Orange whip? We'll have three orange whips." Very few actors could do that innocuous line and make it sound hilarious in the context of the scene. Even when he appeared in a stinkbomb of a movie, he's usually the element that redeemed it.
He was one of the greatest things about the 1980s bar none. |

Too bad his last movie had to be Wagon's East. I loved that movie. I'm going to have to watch it again when I have the time. |
