Ackroyd did manage to get an Oscar nom for Driving Miss Daisy, which I feel was richly deserved. Had Belushi not passed on I think the two of them could have done some great work together- they worked best as an ensemble and played off of one another so well.
Candy was indeed great in his small role in JFK, and I think we would have seen him pop up in some more dramatic parts over the years.

I see no reason to miss John Candy.

I like Candy in Uncle Buck, but his other starring roles were terrible. I can see how some might enjoy PT&A, but I hated it all the way through. If he were still alive, I say he would be doing better than unfunny loads like Aykroyd and Chase, but he would still be relegated to supporting roles, like he did in Home Alone and Rookie of the Year.

i liked that cartoon series....Camp Candy..

he was funny, that's reason enough.

Splash, Stripes and Spaceballs, as previously mentioned. He was a GREAT supporting actor / comeby relief.

One of my favorite lines of all time: "Sorry folks, park's closed. The moose outside shoulda told ya."

That's a great line. I've used it many times in real-life situations and it always garners a giggle or two. :)

FBNG, Forgotten but not gone.

I don't really miss him either. Enjoyed a few roles, but i don't really gripe about his passing when seeing him on screen.

Like many have said already, I like his SCTV stuff MUCH better than his movies. Whenever I watch the later Christopher Guest movies (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, The Mighty Wind), I can't help but think he would have fit so well in them. Heck, they feel like they are almost like a small SCTV reunion anyways due to their style of humor (and Catherine O'Hara & Eugene Levy)

Yeah, he's missed. Even his bit parts were funny.

Don't really miss him at all. Find it hard to miss any celebrity to begin with, but his career was destined to be fair to middlin' at best. He did do some great roles, but he was going down hill. Unlike others he seemed to have already peaked when he died.

Someone I actually do miss is Phil Hartman, he had a lot of good work left in him and could've become someone much bigger.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I remember going to see "Who's Harry Crumb" in the theater when I was 12 and while the movie was overall lackluster, he really brought the laughs with what he was given. Great Outdoors and Summer Rental are both great ones IMO.

I just watched Cool Runnings on HBO HD yesterday and it reminded me how much his presence is missed.

Both he and Phil Hartman left a huge void in comedy for me.

He was absolutely fantastic. By far one of my favorite actors of all time and such a shame he had to die so young. I also just watched Cool Runnings on HBO and this thread is making me want to re-watch more of his classic stuff.

What sucks is that he missed the mid-late 90's comedy renaissance. The smaller films like Armed and Dangerous really needed better jokes to be truly memorable.

After watching the wretched piece of shit movie Due Date (a lame remake of Planes, Trains and Automobiles...in a way) I have to say YES.

Something great died off of this planet when John Candy died.

I love John Candy. I still laugh more at him than most comedians that have come since.
