Oh, I'm all about her work on the Blue - I just wish she would start doing more work for the big screen (now that I think about she was quite saucy in Six Days, Seven Nights).

Patman - she looks freakin' amazing for 38.

As per Hollywood Reporter...

Laurie offering Super support with Marsden

By Borys Kit
Bryan Singer is going with some familiar faces in his Superman movie for Warner Bros. Pictures.

James Marsden, who played Cyclops in Singer's two "X-Men" movies, and Hugh Laurie, who stars in the Singer-executive produced Fox series "House," are joining the Superman cast.

Marsden will play Lois Lane's love interest, Richard White. Laurie is in final negotiations to play Perry White, editor in chief of the Daily Planet. The two characters are related, though the studio declined comment on if they are father and son.

Brandon Routh is set to play Clark Kent/Superman, while Kevin Spacey, who won a supporting actor Oscar for his performance in Singer's "The Usual Suspects," is set to play Lex Luthor. Kate Bosworth is in negotiations to play Lane.

Marsden next appears in Sony Pictures Classics, "Heights," debuts at the Sundance Film Festival this month. He most recently appeared in "The Notebook." Marsden is repped by Endeavor and Brillstein-Grey.

In addition to "House," the Gersh-repped Laurie appears in the feature "Flight of the Phoenix."

Is James Marsden destined to play the 3rd wheel in epic romances?

I'm pretty geeked about Laurie, I think it'll be nice to have something other than the cigar-chomping, white-haired Perry White for a change. He's definitely old enough to be believable as an editor, and he'll look downright ancient next to Routh, Kate, Ashmore, etc.

If you want to see how surly he can be, check out House

Nicole Kidman? She's about 15 years too old to play Brandon Routh's love interest.

Huntington Files Story as Jimmy Olsen

By Borys Kit

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Superman has found his sidekick.

Sam Huntington has been cast as Daily Planet cub reporter Jimmy Olsen in Bryan Singer's Superman movie.

The cast includes Brandon Routh as Clark Kent/Superman, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, Hugh Laurie as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White and James Marsden as Richard White. Kate Bosworth is in negotiations to play Lois Lane.

Olsen was a wide-eyed photographer who even had a watch with a Superman signal. Olsen had his own comic in the 1960s and '70s titled "Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen." Since the late '80s, the comics have portrayed Olsen in a more serious light.

In the Richard Donner movie version, Olsen was played as comic relief by actor Marc McClure.

It is unclear how Singer will showcase Olsen's character in the film.

Huntington's credits include "Jungle 2 Jungle," "Detroit Rock City" and Thomas Haden Church's "Rolling Kansas." He next will be seen in the indie "Molding Clay."

That's good. Better than Shawn Ashmore. Nothing against him, it's just too many X-Men references, since James Marsden is in it, not to mention the director.

Here are the actors/actresses I can think of that play multiple unrelated roles in unrelated superhero movies:

Halle Berry (X-Men, Catwoman)
Rebecca Romaijn (X-Men, Punisher)
James Marsden (X-Men, Superman Returns)

Hmm, all have connections to X-Men?

Anyway, I like all of the casting choices and I think they look like who they are replacing from Superman II. I bet that's the point, trying to find actors that look as if they could be the same actors from Superman II. I could believe that any of these people could have looked like this after six years:

If you want to see them "morph" into the other actor, check out my post here:

It's really amazing how much Routh looks like a young Reeve. I am so ready for this flick. Of course it won't touch the grandeur of the original, but it ought to be really really good!

Mrs. Kent has been cast, great choice!

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr..._id=1000788134

Eva Marie Saint will play Martha Kent, the adoptive mother of Clark Kent/Superman in Bryan Singer's Superman film for Warner Bros. Pictures. Brandon Routh is playing Superman. Saint, who starred in the Alfred Hitchcock classic "North by Northwest," co-stars in Wayne Wang's "Because of Winn-Dixie," to be released by 20th Century Fox on Feb. 18, and will also appear in Wim Wenders' "Don't Come Knocking," to be released by Sony Pictures Classics in the fall.

Kal Penn Confirmed for Superman

Yesterday we posted the rumor that "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" star Kal Penn might have been cast in Bryan Singer's Superman. Now, Mira Nair ("Vanity Fair"), the director of his new and upcoming movie, has confirmed this to Rediff:

"Kal's film 'Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle' was a hit and all the 13-year-olds in America know and love him," she said. "'Namesake' will be his first dramatic role. He is an extraordinary actor. He has just signed on as Superman's best friend in the new movie called 'Superman Returns'. As soon as he finishes shooting for Namesake, he will shoot for that. So by the time 'Namesake' comes out next year, everyone will know Kal Penn, which will be great for us!"

What I don't understand is the fact that if this movie takes place after Superman II, why does Clark have a best friend and Lois has a new love interest? I assume she gets back together with Clark by the end of the movie? So something about Superman lost his powers and isolated himself for six years. Is this supposed to go into the "middle" of Superman II? I though Superman got his powers back and defeated the bad guys at the end. So, let's see, after beating the bad guys, going back to the diner to teach that dude a lesson, kissing Lois to erase her memory, whatever, he goes BACK to his hideout and takes away his poweres AGAIN and hides out for six years, eating at White Castle where he meets his new best friend? Something like that. How many years were there actually supposed to be between Superman II and III? Do you think Superman III would actually fit back in the storyline after Superman Returns? If not, I wonder how hard would it be to "pretend" that Superman III takes place right after Returns? Call me crazy, but I actually love Superman III. I thought Richard Pryor was funny and I loved how Superman was separated into evil Superman and good Clark.

Also, it has been confirmed by Eva Marie Saint (Ma Kent) that her on-screen husband is dead, because of the events of the previous movies, somewhere in that link above, with the info about the white castle kid.

I wouldn't get too carried away with the "after the events of Superman II" thing. I think that quote was just a general statement, ie the new movie will assume the world knows about Superman, that he has already defeated Big Bads, that Clark and Lois have some kind of relationship, etc. I don't think Singer necessarily meant it would be a by-the-numbers sequel to Superman II.

I think the general timeline will be followed, not necessarily the specifics. Good idea IMO.

This is from AICN website about more casting scoops. I wasn't sure if it should be spoiler tags on it or not but just went in the safe route.

Article link

Scooper 'Rich' sent us this scoop, which we can't confirm at this time. We can tell you that 'Rich' was the first one to tell us that Kal Penn is actually Luthor's right-hand man, which at first contradicted reports that said he was playing Superman's best friend, but now turns out to be true. If the rest is accurate, there's some big names still to be officially announced for Warner Bros.' Superman:

I have some exclusive casting news on Superman Returns. Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle, Van Wilder) has indeed signed on, as a earring wearing, tattooed punk that serves as Luthor's right hand man.

Spoiler:
Famke Janssen's (X-Men 1 & 2, Goldeneye) meeting with director Bryan Singer down under was for Superman Returns, and she has snagged the role of Lora, the birth mother of The Man Of Steel, while Daniel Day-Lewis (Gangs Of New York, The Last Of The Mohicans) has gotten the role of his birth father, Jor-El.

As for the other villians, Jude Law (Cold Mountain, Gattaca) has finally signed on as General Zod, and Kevin Bacon (Mystic River, Apollo 13) has signed as John Corbin.

Finally, Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile) has gotten the role of a reporter at the Daily Planet, who becomes Clarke's rival after his return. Expect WB to make these casting bits official in about a week.
